iPod questions

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a 30GB photo from like 2 or 3 years ago. One of my wife's acquaintances saw it and said "Wow! That looks like my Grandmother's iPod" meaning that it's so BIG and out-dated looking.
So my question is this...since they come out with new iPods like every 3-4 months, what happens to the ones from the times of yore that don't sell? Do they get destroyed or can you get a NOS iPod for cheap?

Also, I have an opportunity to buy a used 30GB photo just like my wife's, can I load & register it on my iTunes? or is it non-transferrable?

i don't know what they do with them, but i know you can still transfer stuff onto it, its all about the updates with the software. just a little over a year ago i used to use an old generation 20GB iPod that was the black and grey screen (that old kind), and it worked fine with itunes.

They are all over eBay, and some people are selling old ones but using new pictures. Watch out.

They give away the old models with laptops for students before the new ones are released to minimize overstock. With those, who knows, but I know of no authorized dealer that can sell those below Apple's price. So if you're buying one for less, either it's not new, or it's not Apple authorized.

Do you really need a new model? Do you need more storage, do you NEED to watch TV and movies on your iPod? The old models are just as great, and I only upgrade due to storage space, not much else.

I wound up ordering my wife a refurbished Nano for $99 direct from Apple. I'll keep the "Grandmother's iPod" for myself.

I love my 30 gig. No pictures on it what so ever. Just 25 gigs of music. I figure I will replace it when I have 40 gigs of music on my computer.

Apple sells them on clearance through their website for one thing. They have the previous gen Nanos and 80GB models now that the new Nano and 120's (I think) are out.
