Watson likes to make outrageous comments whether or not backed up by research. It's unusual to see him backtrack on them though. It's a good thing no-one takes him seriously.

Someone clearly did at some point seeing he is the godfather of genetics

I dont agree with his outlandish race based statements. But i respect him as a scientist, without his work in the field genetics would not be where it is today

What's ironic about it? He wasn't comparing himself to blacks.

The fact that he's 16% black is completely irrelevant to anything he researches or concludes. I don't think it's ironic for ANYONE to have black heritage, just as there are very few, if any, "African Americans" who don't have a significant amount of Caucasian blood in them.
