Itouch Songs Won't Play (see picture)

The songs will add to my itouch but they aren't able to be played. I have it set to manually manage music and I have the latest ios and itunes software. This seems to have started occurring after I updated the software. The songs have a sync icon next to them but the itouch is not syncing when the icon is there. The songs are greyed out and I cannot play them while the itouch is connected to the computer nor when i try to play them when the itouch is not connected. I tried turning the itouch on and off with no result.



Any ideas?

I just went through this on a touch - when I tried to use the iPod the next day, all of the artwork was still there, but nothing would play - and had to reset the whole thing and start again, which took quite a while. In my case, it was my fault as my music drive was daisy chained through a device that wasn't powered up at the time I agreed to update the OS. in any event, the reset did the trick and I didn't appear to lose anything.
