About time. I know hardcore libertarians aren't going to like the law, but families need to be respected when burying their loved ones.

I'm honestly surprised that the members of the Westboro Baptist church haven't ended up in intensive care yet over their "protests."

This should be a federal law at all funerals. No matter who it is or what happened.
All family's need to be able to grieve in peace...

It makes me sick. That's not Christianity in any way, shape or form.

I find it pretty sad that a law like this needs to be put in place at all. Humans should have enough deceny to let a family bury their loved ones in peace. Since apparently not all of us feel that way, I am glad that the law passed.

God sent someone to murder a nine year old to punish idolatrous America?

Where did this whackjob come from?

I'm pretty sure if someone set up about 1,000 yards away from these "religious" protesters with one of those high powered sniper rifles with a scope that can see a fly on a horses ass and started picking them off one by one, no one would care.

It's so ironic that the very rights that soldiers and others die for allows these wackos to stage these protests. Sometimes I wouldn't mind some trampling of my "free speech" right if it put an end to this type of thing.

i am struggling to find it now, but i once found an article online about fred phelps. i thought it was in the wiki page on him (which will tell you lots), but there was a section i read on his family and how he raised them. it was rather disturbing, filled with abuse and unseemly crap like that. he managed to get a big "family" under his "spell."

he seems to be your typical psychotic megalomaniac.

until he breaks a law tho, he is a full member of our free society....

I've said it many times, and I'll say it again; if I ever passed them protesting ANY funeral, I'd hurt at least one of them in an effort to hurt more. I'd most likely go to jail beaten to a pulp by a mob. But at least one person would think twice before protesting again.

I understand and respect your point of view. However, I think that freedom of speech is an important right to protect, even when I find the speech at issue to be ignorant and offensive.

Free speech could be left alive and this sort of thing dealt with by extending freedom of speech to include violence against these kinds of people.

Well, while I disagree with absolutely everything the Westboro Baptist Church stands for (the Westboro part, the Baptist part, and the church part), our freedom of speech is in place to protect all speech we may not agree with, or approve of. This "law" is nothing but political grandstanding, and legal bank rolling.

the Westboro crew have been at this kind of thing for a while IIRC.

the protests against them are usually funny though...

I hate WBC as much as the next guy, but doesn't this violate the first amendment to the US constitution?

EDIT: Beaten to it.
