I sent BartmanPDX's post about his service dog to my wife cause i thought it was a good story and a cool dog. Since then she has researched every webpage there has ever been written on Golden doodles, and low and behold yesterday we went and picked one up of our own.
we were talking about getting a dog but my wife is highly allergic. and....three weeks ago she wanted nothing to do with any kind of dog...ever again, lol. that lasted long!
He is definetly a cutie, and will be about 50 pounds full grown. He is still real nervous and not eating much, but should be good in a few days. When he got in the house -after his bath - he found a spot where no one could sneak up on him and plopped down for a good 4-5 hour nap... he sure is fluffy!
So here is the newest member of our family...Charlie!

I have a schnoodle, as my mom is very allergic to most things animal. His name is Mojo. He looks just like your golden doodle, but he is smaller.
Congrats, beautiful dog!

Technical aside: "doodles" do not always get the non-shedding poodle hair. Sometimes they get the fur coat of the non-poodle parent. So anyone buying a doodle of any variety should double-check to be absolutely sure that the specific individual dog they're getting has the proper coat. |

when we gave him a bath, we used one of those shedding brushes to help dry him out, and no fur came off at all, so its lookin good!
there was a girl there that had a nice retriever coat, but the breeder said most of the time they shed like a retriever, so we passed...
I was surprise how big they get. They had a "nanny" dog there that hangs out with all the pups. Her head was up to my waist, which was big enough for me... (i'm 5' 10")
anybody got any good training websites they know about?

We had some good training books, and read stuff on the web, but the most useful training we got was at a regularly-scheduled puppy class at a local grooming/supply place. One big benefit is you get the outside perspective of the teacher, who can observe mistakes that you don't realize you're making, and another is socialization of the puppy with other puppies. Good socialization is IMO the very most important training, especially in the first few months. |

| | | Way to go, he looks like a good one. The first thing I do with any new dog is take him outside and pee on him. Yep, he's got to know who is boss. |

Goldendoodles sure are cute. Bongomania is right about the coat.
Shenandoah does shed some, though she favors her poodle dad's fur on her head and legs, and is starting to show more of her mom's golden retriever on the back. Her hair tends to clump more, so that the shedding is not the cloud of fur that comes off of some dogs, but it comes off like dust bunnies. Regular brushing with a pin brush can eliminate shedding -- it clumps up in the brush.
We're off to the Cleveland Clinic on Tuesday morning, so Shenandoah will be working hard as they are going to take my daughter off her meds and hook up an EEG to her head for a few days while she seizes.
She had a great time last week though as we played in the snow in Tahoe. She didn't shake nearly as much on the plane this time.
FWIW, Shenandoah is a healty (not overweight) 75 lbs at the moment, and is one of the smallest dogs from her litter. Some of her service littermates are pushing 90 lbs. THey can be pretty big, and cute like a polar bear cub if you let their hair grow out. Shenandoah will be getting groomed fairly short tomorrow in preparation for the hospital, and it's a totally different look for her. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
