Being a Philadelphia native, it's entertaining to watch when the local news stations go on code-red alert before it even starts snowing. HOWEVER, I did enjoy not having to be at work until later since we had a delay this morning.

Yes, I bet the people in the North laugh at us Southerners. But it really does shut down the city. We don't have all the heavy duty snow plows to clear the streets. So it really does affect us differently.

Watch out for the other guy if you're driving in that stuff. It's known as "stupid powder" especially the first snow of the year.

Maybe, but having lived in both worlds, (Adirondack NNY native ) I think southern folks get the last and best laugh, enjoy a few days of winter, and back to normal in a few days. Glad to be at home today, was working outside during NE blizzard of '78. I'll laugh with ya.

Like this guy from Michigan told me: "I used to laugh at how you guys reacted to a little snow, until I moved here and realized that there was ice underneath it. That's a whole 'nother ballgame. When we get heavy snow, for the most part, it's just snow."

Snow is not that big a deal here in Chicago, but not because the drivers are so great. There are plenty of trucks, plenty of salt, experienced crew and a proven snow removal plan. Our topography is flat for the most part. But if we get heavy snow during rush hour and the plows are tied up, everything pretty much goes haywire. There was a storm about 5 years ago where my normal 1 hour drive home took 5 hours. I wised up and moved closer to work.

It's kinda like sand, with a negative friction coefficient.

I'd kill for .5 inches of slush right now. We got 5 - 7 inches out here in Gwinnett.

That is a great definition!

It's really weird, while all sorts of places worldwide are getting record snowfalls, here in Ottawa this is our second really mild winter in a row. Not complaining mind you Just that it is weird.
