I keep hearing rumors he's coming to Mn--Personally I wish he wouldn't have been so quick to retire.Packers are in a tough spot--aron Rogers may get po'd and demand a trade if Brett comes back

I think the Packers have more or less said they do not want him back now.

He needs to stay retired, and if he returns, the Packers need to tell him to take a hike. Returning like that would be selfish because favre is old, and although I'm sure he would be good, the packers need to establish a Post-Favre identity. Frankly, Favre has been self-centered for a long time, but he has been a media favorite and his negative qualities tend to be ignored.

Trade him to an AFC team. Or a team that has NO chance of a Super bowl appearance, like the Bears.....

He's only hurting his own reputation. This evening in Wisconsin they are now reporting that 3 weeks after the retirement press conference Favre wanted back and Thompson and McCarthy decided to have him back, telling Favre they would push off Rogers one more year. Thompson and McCarthy charted a plane to Miss but two days before the meeting to make it official and confirm everything with Brett and right before the draft, Favre telephoned and said he changed his mind again and wanted to stay retired. It was at that point Thompson drafted two QBs to have a back up for Rogers and went full steam ahead modifying the playbook to play to Rogers strengths and handing the starting QB position over to Rogers.

Now this. Can you really blame Thompson and McCarthy? Gard, Jive and others know how strongly I've gone to bat for Favre in the past. But this is nothing short of a debacle and the Packers ain't the ones looking bad. Nobody is bigger than the team whether you're Brett Favre or Reggie White. I say keep him as Rogers backup or trade him for a couple of high draft picks to an AFC team like Oakland where he can be reunited with his buddy Javon. I don't see how the Packers would let him go to the Bears or Vikes or Lions.

I don't like Favre and I don't like the Packers. But he's THE Packer. Seeing him play for anyone else just wouldn't make sense.

If he was smart he would retire as a GOD in the annals of Green Bay history instead of leaving a bad taste in everyone's mouth by pulling all sorts of goofy stuff and retiring after playing somewhere else.

Maybe he could "come full circle" by signing with the Falcons and mentoring Matt Ryan.

(I'm not that serious, but it would make an interesting story)

The first paragraph of the Journal-Sentinel sums it up pretty well:
Quote:
After 16 years together, two Super Bowls, one championship, three MVP seasons and 275 consecutive starts; after a generation of fans grew up knowing only one number — 4 — at quarterback; it appears the Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre are headed for a bitter, messy divorce.

For as much of "going up to bat" for Favre as it may seem...

Dude's been playing professional football for 17 years. He's achieved most every conceivable record he can achieve. He's known success, he's known failure and he's gotten plenty banged around in the process.

I think it would have been awesome to have walked off into the sunset as a division champion and been a cardboard dummy on ESPN or whatever. That lure has got to be pretty strong.

However, the guy loves playing the game. That's what he's done. That's what he's shown over the course of the past 17 years. He has pretty much ALWAYS shown that he doesn't always have the best judgement- and he goes for it and takes his lumps later. There's a few hundred balls I bet he wish he could have back. But if he hadn't thrown a few hundred more JUST LIKE THOSE he wouldn't be Brett Favre.

I see people at work who retire who show up all the time. Some come back part time, some come to visit on a regular basis. Some miss the camraderie, some miss the paycheck, some miss the routine, some miss the job.

I can see the lure of a nice retirement of kickin' back on the porch, being set for life financially as a legend. None of us has a job that a great part of it is having 11 people trying to kick the crap out of you. I can see waffling about wanting to go back to that.

Ten years ago or whatever, in Reggie White's last season with the Packers, I remember people talking about forcing Reggie to retire, and I didn't understand that. Sure, Reggie was old- but he was also still productive. Not only was he still getting sacks and making tackles- he was also drawing double teams and teams were running away from him.

Personally, I wish Favre would have not retired, but since he did, I think Favre should stay retired. If he doesn't, I believe the Packers organization should not release him.

the Patriots are going to go 19-0 this year the most challenging game they got this year is against the Colts. we lost a couple key players. but it seems like everyone on that team is ready to step up and leave their mark. Belichick is a great coach.

Nope.

Favre was a Bear killer in his heyday, and probably return to being that if he played on the Bears. I can totally see him sucking arse for us. It's just in his nature.

But, I would love another season of watching Favre getting pummelled by the Navy and Orange.

I think it would be ironic to see the Favre jersey retirement celebration at Lambeau, and then have him run through the tunnel in the Purple and Gold for the home opener.

kinda feels like when Joe Montana went to KC-it just didn't look right seeing him not in a 49ers uniform.I am a huge Packers fan--would love to have seen Brett stay, especially that close to a super bowl, youngest team in the league, etc.I think he retired too early. And since the Packers planned for the future, drafter accordingly,etc-he put them in a tough spot.If they let him come back,Rogers gets irked(and rightfully so)If they dont-it's a huge pr nightmare.I wish he woulda just stayed retired and faded into the sunset, maybe take on a role in the office as a pr guy,or something..

Wisconsin State Journal is now reporting Packers have offered Favre to come back in a back up role to Aaron Rogers.

I can't even put into words how dissapointed I am in the whole thing. If there has ever been one guy that should NEVER play for another team, it's Brett.
