iTunes driving me mad!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hopefully this is really simple-here goes...

When I purchase and download music from the iTunes Store I am able to burn a disc as a normal audio CD, but when I try to burn the same material as an MP3 disc iTunes will not let me. I think it is something to do with purchased music being downloaded as MP4p files but I don't know how to get around this. Anybody have any ideas?

Peace

Kurt

Burn the purchased song to the CD then import it into iTunes as an MP3. That's one way to do it.

That's really the only way to do it. Didja read the licence agreements for the stuff you purchase off iTunes store? No? Well if you did, you'd realize the songs are DRM protected..you own the file but with limitations....

So yeah, burn as audio, and then re-import to another folder, or use another CD burn suite entirely. DRm is easy to get around that way.....um, I mean....I don't share music files...ever....

I use Roxio, just because it was free.

Thanks guys. No I didn't read the licence agreement-does anyone?

I'm not trying to create MP3s for file sharing, it's just my car player supports MP3, and it'd cut down on the amount of discs in my car.

However I do use Limewire to check out artists new to me, but if I like them I will always buy an original recording.

I tried burning an audio disc and re importing onto another PC with the Creative software that comes with the Zen MP3players. From that I burned an MP3 disc and all seemed well, but the files are in .wma format (which my car player won't play) even though the Creative software option I chose was specifically to make an MP3 disc.

The problem with creating an audio disc in iTunes, then reimporting and burning an MP3 disc is the amount of messing around making sure you have the right versions in the playlist, and making sure you delete the right versions to avoid duplicating your library.

It just seems like an unnecessary waste of time to have to do this when Apple could allow you to just go ahead and make an MP3 disc straight out

As ever

Peace

Kurt

There is another way to do it in one step. Play the song in iTunes while recording it in Audacity.

You know, it was the record labels that wanted DRM. And mp3 doesn't support DRM.
Also, AAC (the default iTunes format) sounds better than mp3. To my ears at least. Yes, I have done "blind" tests - AAC sounds way better at the same bit rate. For my own CD collection I use AAC @ 192kbps.

IMO it is the rest of the industry that ought to implement AAC support. mp3 is sooo 90's.

This is why I don't purchase songs from iTunes.

Also, if you burn it to a CD and then re-import it, the sound quality is going to be miserable. So you don't really want to do that. The Solution? Get a refund from iTunes and buy CDs.

Have you tried this?
I have.
The sound quality is not miserable. I'd claim that you won't be able to tell apart an mp3 made from original CD and one made from an iTunes CD.

I agree. Granted, the quality of downloaded iTunes music is not true CD-quality, but it's decent. I burn to CD then re-import in Apple Lossless format. Then I convert to an approx. ~190kb VBR MP3. Sounds good to me.
