And I need it cut. Where can I go? I don't think I know anyone that does it themselves.

For what purpose do you need your wood cut. And what type of wood is it?

I'm trying to raise a few pedals on my board about an inch so I can get to them more easily with my foot. The wood bits are leftovers from an Ikea bookcase.

Well now, before you go to home depot, I think it's not a bad idea to maybe invest in a handsaw and a little sandpaper. Don't have to really be a genius, superb craftsman or anything, and the tools are pretty cheap. Just try to measure it out. You'll be happy you did, because things like this may come in handy later on.

That's not real wood if it's iKea. I wouldn't want to just cut that with a normal saw.

Not real wood? Is it, like, solidified wood vapor?

I was thinking the same thing myself actually. I've had a few sanding blocks for various mini-projects around the house but they always end up disappearing into our mysterious black hole of a garage. If I get another I'll make sure to put it in my personal toolkit.

A lot of ikea stuff if made with particle board or compressed wood.

I figured it wasn't "real" wood, more like a bunch of wood scraps pressed together... kind of like the wood equivalent of a chicken nugget. But what makes it non-ideal for a normal saw? What should I use to cut it instead?

I guess that explains why Ikea is so cheap. Yeah, my dad used to have some particle board. Didn't really look like what Ikea had, but eh, I haven't seen raw particle board in ages. I'm not really sure what my dad used it for, as all his projects were usually made from his favorite wood - Oak.

Ikea has special everything. Some of their silverware looks "futuristic" (made for alien hands) and they have special little tools to put together their furniture (like the septagonic alan keys and the like).

I bought a few things from them, but I gotta say. Really, the silverware. And the sparkling wine-like apple soda. And the chocolate. And the tools they sell that are shaped funny. And the Swedish names for everything. Sometimes I get freaked out going to Ikea.

No offense to the Swedish, of course.

Particle board will shred when you attempt to cut it with a saw.
