I've just noticed something...

Sign in to disble this ad
While sitting at your desk at work; spending time on TB OT rather than doing some silly work tasks...when drifting into the "power nod" realm' the time your eyes remain closed is directly proportionate to the weight of your eyelids when attempting to re-open them so as not to go into a full on sleep. Of course that is proportional to fear that the power nod did slip into a full on sleep and a spotting by the boss...
Upon re-opening said eyes; they are very. very heavy indeed. This warrants further *yawn* research...all for science...all for evolution

Yeah...I'm starting to hallucinate. I have a new upstairs neighbor who decided to move furniture all night. So I didn't get a lot of sleep. G/f kept telling me to just close my eyes and eventually I would fall asleep. She's from NYC...go figure. I knew I shoulda gone upstairs and smacked that guy a few times!

Sadly, caffiene doesn't affect me in that way. Soda, coffee, etc...it doesn't give me a jolt of energy. I drink coffee before bed usually. I just gotta tough it out for a couple more hours and then I can go home and take a nap...until g/f comes over and wakes me up.

Pain. Jab yourself in the back of your hand with scissors, a pencil, anything. Pain will keep you awake.

However, if you do too much damage, you might not get a good night's sleep again.

Well. The in that case your only option to walk around the corner and buy a bag of blow to get you through the day.

Umm...no. But I did learn a nifty trick in the Army for staying awake for days at a time. In the MRE (Meal, Ready to Eat) one will find a small bottle of tabasco sauce. If poured in the eye, one will not sleep for days at a time. I did that exactly one time. I still cringe when I remember that pain. Never again.

In our lifeguard tower when were were watching our water I used to hold a padlock in my hand. If I nodded off the padlock would make such a loud sound that it would wake me up. Another trick is to buy a bag of MM's or Skittles and figure out how many minutes you have left in the day and then divide that by the number of M&M's/Skittles and set them out on your desk in increments so that you can eat one at it's allotted time.

Those are good ideas. Maybe I'll try that. It beats the hell out of tabasco in the eye.

Doing the counting and math alone would probably burn a good chunk of time, too. Explaining to your boss why you're counting Skittles on your desk might also keep you awake.

I gave up smoking almost eight years ago but I still remember how helpful that was during a long day. Maybe I need to start up again...I'm sure it would help me lose a few pounds too!
I just got up and ate a banana...my afternoon snack. Sadly though, I peeled it to reveal a brusied banana. So I only got a few bites beforeI had to toss it. But I also had a bottle of water. So I'm a bit more energetic now. I only have 51 minutes left and I'm free for the rest of the day!!

I'm not particularily looking forward to the whole joining the 9-5 work force thing...

edit: I have to say it is the same in class though, but the "boss" is always paying attention to what you are doing... they don't always care/call us out on it though as I'm in college and some teachers just don't care what you do!

we either need to come up with more interesting jobs or go back to hunting buffalo... bet you wouldn't fall asleep with one of them charging at you...
