i've lost the "muse"

so i've been wanting to post this for a while, but i figured i would get over it and it would just pass. i've lost the "muse". i have been playing/producing/teching for 20 years or so and recently i have just lost the desire. a lot of it has to do with the fact that tommy rivers, see my sig, has pretty much vanished off of the face of earth it seems. we are going hot n heavy on an album, finish it and boom he disappears. i have spoken to him 1 time since thanksgiving. called and called and called and nothing. no one has heard or seen him in months. i know he hasnt done the album without me as i have all of the masters. just another litlle load of bs in my life i guess.

You know how you always hear "I'll keep doing this until it's not fun anymore..."?

Maybe you've hit the point where you need to take a break and figure out what makes you happy, and what made you want to play in the first place.

My regular "original rock" band folded a few years ago. Since then I've had more fun getting together with friends making loud, crashy rock. Just playing covers and enjoying it. I've got a part time cover band and a couple fill in gigs. While I like playing with those guys, I just love going to the basement and making loud, crashy rock and roll with my friends.

This is the point where you go and buy yourself a few hookers, rent a limo with one of them screaming "woooooot" out of the sunroof with a martini class in one hand and her bra in the other, and you call up your buddy tom rivers, and you shout "go to hell my fair weathered friend, I've got a couple of hookers, and I'm not sharing because I've lost my muse, you see, and I can do things like that when you've lost your muse, you see, so we're going hot tubbing in a vegas suite and and I'm going to bet a bag of china on black 13 'cause money plays in vegas and see what happens" and then hang up without saying good-bye. That'll show him.

Or you can just take a little time off to learn how to knit.

so...even the pros are space cadets.

so sorry to hear this, mang. it sucks ass to have a neat gig go stoopid because the 'talent' listens to the voices under the fridge.
(btdt multiple times on my side of the tracks [down by the trailer park].)

i hope tommy comes up for air and that it all works out.

and, as far as that little minkie 'muse'...she's a skank ho' that needs discipline. ya gotta keep yer pimp hand strong, my brutha!

tommy for a lot of years was an alcoholic. would call me at 3am bltzed. finally it caught up to him and he was hospitalized. damn near killed him. was on the wagon for 2 years and now this. some neighbors called me once when he was really bad off and told me he was passed out in his front yard with a bottle of jack daniels in his hand. they got him inside and cleaned up but i fear that we may be back to our old tricks again.

thanks, me too. this guy is an unbelievable talent. if marc bolan and keith richards had a babay, it would be tommy. i love working for tommy in any capacity but this is just too much. i'm getting too old for this crap.

Oh. Well don't I feel like a dummy. [Takes his hookers, his limo, and bag of china, and cancels the trip to vegas].

any reason not to do a side project where you are either the frontman or the ballbuster in charge? maybe recharge the old batteries with something different?
surely you have enough contacts and buddies in the industry that you could pull something cool together...an 'old and in the way' or 'new riders of the purple sage' to your 'grateful dead', as it were?
or...and i shudder to think it...are you considering a full-on 'eff-it'?
(i just hate to see good players hitting the wall...Gawd knows i've done it, and i'm at the bottom of the food chain.)

sometimes a hiatus is a good thing, true, but i've always been of the opinion that a bird's gotta fly, a fish's gotta swim...and a musician's gotta play.
(that's just me, though...and i smoke too many parodi kings, so you know my opinion's suspect...)

hang in there, dave.
