I love his show, he is a real nice guy, has fun, but has some sense and has really shown the world a lot of jobs 90% wouldn't of known about. GIves you a new appreciation for the people who do them. And not one of the people doing those jobs looks at all unhappy. They genuinely enjoy what they do.

I like the show too, and I like how he hosts After The Catch. It seems though like he is being overly promoted recently with all the endorsements.

If i'm not mistaken he has been in commercials since before Dirty Jobs started. I know there was one for some pharmacy, and i'm not positive but the Ford gig as well, but I may be (and probably am) wrong on that 1.
He also used to host a late night shopping network thing. Tons of clips on youtube. He's great in them haha.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbd2DucRe1M

He also used to do opera, and has sung a few times on the show and does the national anthem at ball games. He's really done a lot.

Dirty Jobs is a great show. Last night was a smokehouse and cleaning a flaming toilet. Awesome stuff. Glad we don't have Smellevision.

Mike Rowe is an awesome guy in my opinion. I think the idea behind his show is great, and he's got a very no nonsense everyman aspect to him that's refreshing.

Without seeing more than a couple of minutes of the show, I've always had the impression that it was just exploiting the nastiest aspects of "dirty jobs" (eww, gross) for the sake of entertainment.

I take it from the interview linked above that he has a lot of respect for work in general, and the trades in particular, and that we need to start thinking about educational alternatives to to four-year colleges. Does he espouse these beliefs in the show?

I don't know that he espouse's it in the show, but he does show great respect for the people that do these jobs.

And yes, we should have alternatives. Someone has to dig ditches. Not everyone can be an engineer.

You can tell that Mike believes in hard work from watching his show. He never, or at least I haven't seen him, quits a job before it's done so long as it's feasible, he always tries to do the job as well as he can, he doesn't just try a job and fail spectacularly like one might expect, he seems to respect the men that he's working with too, always asking their names and calling them by them and other things that a host of a nationally broadcast cable show might not necessarily need to do. His show's definitely worth checking out if you've got the time. Discovery and the Science Channel run marathons of his show somewhat frequently, so you might wanna sit down for an evening and watch it.

QFT

Mike is one of my heroes, great show, and he's apparently a fantastic person that really supports what he believes in.

He's also a funny bastard.

The missus and I have a "game" we play where we each get to invite 5 people to a dinner party - no limits on when they were alive. Mike Rowe is ALWAYS on my list. So is Carl Sagan and Albert Einstein. Imagine THAT conversation!

Another random thing I felt compelled to ad, the music on the show is really good. Does discovery have a music crew they hire to do music for the shows?

The main theme is actually a Faith No More tune:

We Care A Lot

Really? I Didn't know that, cool.
The background/interlude/whatever music in the show is seriously great. THey've had like rockabilly stuff some nice funk stuff, I wanna know if they have their own session guys for all the shows and documentary stuff.

As a fellow member of the dirty jobs workforce (I work as a welder in a railcar repair shop), I applaud this man and his way of thinking.
