I just saw a video of this on Youtube. I must learn to play.

Does anyone know where I can find the necessary equipment? A short jaunt through Google yielded no useful results.

There's a building on campus that we could use. It's shaped perfectly.

It looks like it would be fun to play. I've only watched at bet on game.........with little success All the players and gear come from south america. I know they have camps you can attend to learn the game. I saw it on TV a few years ago.

I'm pretty sure there's a jai alai school in Miami. Maybe there's some equipment available there.

I'd love to have a cesta. Those things look badass.

EDIT: I read about the jai alai school a while back but can't seem to find any info on it now.

You can play the less risky esku-pilota (hand ball in basque) wich is played with your hands in wich you (or every player indeed) have to make your own gloves (well its much more like an adhesive padding you put in your palms). It is less speedy than the JA but you wont have to buy a helmet or a cesta

According to an article that was recently in my local paper, it's been slowly dying out here (FL) since the eighties. The one in Tampa closed about 10 years ago and the one in Miami used to be a packed place but now they play to sparse crowds in a deteriorating building.

In one of my former jobs I used to spend a lot of time in Miami. One night we went to one of the Jai Alai clubs. It was pretty cool to watch, and the gambling aspect was pretty fun. Unfortunately, like horseracing, I never seemed to pick the right person to win. Let's just say I didn't leave that night counting my winnings.

My only experience with this sport is seeing it during the intro and conclusion to "Miami Vice".

I went to a Jai-Alai match in Tampa years ago when my brother lived in Palm Harbor. That was in the 1985 time frame. It was cool to watch, we had fun betting, I did OK, and I walked out of there wanting to try playing it, but I don't think I've even thought about Jai-Alai since then.
