Aaaannnnddd.... This guy's fall from stardom continues its downhill slide today: http://blog.al.com/live/2010/07/jama..._arrested.html Quote:
MOBILE, Ala. -- Former Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell was arrested today for possession of a controlled substance, according to the Mobile County Sheriff's Office.
The substance was codeine syrup, spokeswoman Lori Myles said.
Myles said Russell was arrested at his home early this afternoon during an undercover investigation. He was booked into Mobile Metro Jail at 4:22 p.m. Russell was released minutes later after making $2,500 bail, according to online records.
Russell is scheduled to appear in court on July 20. A bond hearing is set for July 7.
Russell played high school football at Williamson High School in Mobile. He played quarterback for LSU from 2003 to 2006 and was the No. 1 draft pick for the Raiders in 2007.
Russell went 7-18 as a starting QB. The Raiders released Russell last May.

Its main ingredient is prescription-strength cough syrup containing codeine and promethazine.[1] Cough syrup is typically mixed with ingredients such as 7Up soft drink and pieces of Jolly Rancher candy. The purplish hue of purple drank comes from dyes in the cough syrup.
What would be the point of this? Wouldn't this just make you fall asleep?

I'd like to see smaller contracts for unproven high draft picks. Having said that, what players to sign for should have a good % of that sum guaranteed, as in the player isn't screwed if he gets hurt and is cut.

Problem is - abusing this stuff is no joke. The two rappers who made "purple drank" famous - Big Moe (the guy in the video) and DJ Screw are both dead. More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purple_Drank

-Mike | Well, I do believe that possession of Codeine without a prescription is a crime in the states, but I may be wrong.

Way to go, JaMarcus. Quite a legacy you're working on there.
There's another NFL guy, Johnny Jolly of the Packers, currently in trouble for the same thing. Except he was actually a good player once.

Cough syrup is just bad, man. I mean, for colds it's fine, but it's just dumb to use it for anything else...unless you're into that, I'm not gonna judge, it's just when you mess up you can wake up pretty dead.

Wouldn't this just make you fall asleep? | Pretty sure it doesn't make you drowsy, Its called Tilt because it makes you really dizzy, your motor skills are thrown off, get looser, more carefree, if you do enough you can hallucinate. (Never done it, just from Houston )

On the one hand, I can understand a push for lower rookie-contract caps. On the other, Russell's draft position is an utterly classic example of teams, scouts and the media focusing myopically on a player's "measurables" (he's big and has a strong arm, oooh!) and not enough on his in-game performance, football IQ and attitude. I saw him play against the Gators three times; he threw seven picks (despite only playing half of one of those games) and had a couple of fumbles, too. LSU went 2-1 in those games, but they racked up much more yardage than UF in the two victories and yet still had to pull out those games in the 4th quarter.

The only QB taken #1 overall who has come close to returning that value in recent history is Payton Manning, and that's been what, 10-12 years ago already?
Just because a kid is the best QB in his draft class in no way should make him the de facto #1 pick in the draft. I don't know why more NFL GMs haven't gotten this by now. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
