The Mavs would have to give up quite a bit. Do you think this deal is/would be worthwhile? Looks like the Nets would be the winners if it happens, but at least Kidd has more left in the tank than Shaq. |

I just heard it while watching the Raptors-Nets game so I'm not sure, but I bet Kidd won't be too pleased.

Kidd at least will make good decisions down the stretch in big games. But Dallas is giving up their entire bench, and a few draft picks. They better win now. IMHO the Celtics and the Pistons are still the teams to beat and I don't see how a Dallas with serious defensive flaws and now no bench just got any better.

i dunno why all these guys are heading to the extremely competitive west. they should all head east where all the teams suck, and your western conference experience will take you to the top as a sure fire conference leader. other than boston, detroit and lebron himself, who else would you really worry about? |

While I like Jason Kidd a lot and I still think he's got some good basketball left in him, I just don't think this is a great deal.
Even though Stackhouse would supposedly be bought out and then return to the Mavs, it's still a lot for Dallas to give up. One overlooked flaw in this trade (IMO) is that the Mavs would be giving up their only other legit big man in Diop. Neither he or Dampier are very good, but they are experienced big bodies. With Dampier waking up in the morning with two fouls already, they need a reliable back up. Especially in the West which now features Yao, Shaq, Bynum and next year Oden.
I wouldn't go so far as to say Dallas would be fortunate if this deal falls through, but I don't see Kidd being the piece that vaults them above the Lakers, Suns and Spurs as contenders in the West. |

After Gary Payton did that with Boston a few years ago, the league, put a one season limit on those kind of actions. I do believe that a lot of GM's in the west, except Kupcheck are acting like this a fantasy league. I wonder if they all got the Isiah virus. Good trade for the Nets if it happens. I actually think it moves Dallas down a couple of notches. Your right they're going to run out of fouls real quick against Stoudimier, Shaq, Duncan, and Gasoul. Maybe Nowitski will have to actually play defense against a real 7' footer.
It might change the MVP voting. Does Kidd move into the MVP race? In other-words which no defense white guy from the west gets it this year? Actually thats not fair, Kidd does play decent D, although he's not have the player he was four years ago. Much like Ben Wallace, he is a player on the downside of his career.

But that's just based on what ESPN is reporting so I don't know for sure. What I do know is that Devean George's veto (he'd lose his Bird rights in the deal) is currently snagging the whole trade.
Kidd plays better than decent D when he's healthy. And he's only half white.
This reactionary deadline movement bodes well for my Kings though. It means somebody's going to gamble on Artest and take him off our hands. Probably Denver. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
