I did not know that.

Pretty cool article about Jason and his best bud from High School.

I always liked Newstead. He always seemed like the one with the most integrity in Metallica. I'm surprised he stayed as long as he did.

That's one of the coolest stories I've ever read.

Just another reason Jason is an inspiration. I met him a little over 9 years ago right after he left Metallica and toured with Echobrain. He stayed afterwards for a meet and greet. At 14 years old I told him that I had just started playing bass because of him. He dug in his pocket and handed me a pick... Asked what I listened to and offered some advice.

Our paths crossed at his shows a few times after that and he recognized me and always waved.

He treated a complete stranger well and made me feel important as a kid coming to his shows. I can only imagine the effort he'd put into an old friendship. Jason is really a terrific person and this story just adds to the respect I have for him.
