Jeep...oh...Jeep.

I remember when you were an icon of the military. Then later a staple of the off-roading set for your strength, agility, and bare-bones attitude...as a go-anywhere, do almost anything vehicle.

Now, you're for girls who don't care they just got their herr did.

Oh, how you have fallen. What, are your color options for 2010 pink and yellow?

Discuss?

i still love my TJ
but i agree that Jeep's added too many luxuries to the new JKs. power windows should never be available on a Wrangler. EVER. not to mention there's the option for a 2WD model
it's a shame they've ruined what's basically a very capable rig with these kinds of city-slicker "necessities". 90% of all JKs on the road are soccer moms on their cell phones with the windows up and the AC blasting. honestly, just get a minivan.

/rant

i hope Fiat makes some worthwhile changes (like offering a diesel Wrangler in the US for once)

Oh, I'm referring solely to the latest redesign. Larger, wider, fatter, more plastic and just not as good. And to hell with them for killing the 4.0 i-6. And really, INTEGRATED fog lamps on that "cute" little chrome front bumper strip? WRONG! And D-ITTO on the power windows. Save that crap for the reskinned Durango they call a Grand Cherokee. Or the even lamer Commander. Oh and to hell with the "patriot" and "compass" reskins on the dodge caliber. They're not even off-roadable. Oh, and "freedom drive" can suck it just for being lame-named.

They've been falling by the wayside for a few years now.

This is not a Jeep.

I rest my case.

I like the 4 door Wranglers, I think it was a natural evolution. The base models aren't as serious as they used to be, but the Rubicons still come with some nice features, Dana axles, electronic locking differentials, etc.

I'm just disappointed that they don't offer the Diesel from the Grand Cherokee in the Wrangler. That would totally slay as an off-road rig.

iirc, you can blame Mercedes for that one, before steppin out.

More brand-i.d. cash-in than good idea. Ooooh, does it have 7 slats and round headlights? That makes it a Jeep, right?

I have always wanted a YJ or TJ, the new ones just don't interest me at all.

Subaru is what happened to Jeep. My WARWAGON is a beast that can fly over mountains like Superman.

look at the LJ (TJ unlimited)- those actually have room for bass gear. i can barely fit a 4x10 and head with the backseat removed!
IMO the new Unlimited Wranglers should have been a few inches shorter- they're just WAY too long to be a Wrangler. not to mention the way they come from the factory doesn't lend itself to even jumping a curb, much less going off-road. they're too long, the stock tires are too small, and they're too low to the ground (that includes the Rubicon Unlimited). for a vehicle that size (supposedly designed for off-road use) the tires are too small. heck, they even make 37" boggers look normal sized.
and i still can't believe they dumped the I6 in favor for a 3.8 V6- from a minivan, no less.
i hate marketing to the masses. if you want to have a Jeep, you should be willing to accept the fact that it can only be 4WD, and that the doors must be removed whenever weather permits (and sometimes when it doesn't )

that said, i wouldn't mind owning a JK- if i didn't have to make payments on it

If the floor of your Jeep Wrangler can't be cleaned with a hose, you're doing it wrong.

Jeep has been doing it wrong for a while.

personally i think this is the best jeep commercial.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cvWHRS51oE

and i'll never buy one of the newer jeeps. i'll try and buy the old TJs, before i get anything else. mine is a 98 and i love it. when i can't find a jeep that doesn't have an i-6 4.0, i'll stop buying them.

and these new jeep owners. most of them don't even do the jeep wave. pshh.

I will NOT wave at the driver of a 4 door jeep. Are you friggin' kidding me? 4 doors are for soccer moms.

Occasionally, I will see a off road capable newer one and I may nod, but that is all they get.

My favorite scenario ever is when a new jeep passes me waving like an idiot wanting approval, and I stone cold leave them hanging. Then a REAL jeep passes and I give them a very enthusiastic wave.

Oh, and I may be wrong but I am pretty sure you can get the new ones as an automatic! lol

Um, Jeep has been making SUV's since the 60's. Mercedes' damn-near fatal mistake of getting involved with this abortion of an automaker took place in 1998.

Um, I was referring to the Jeep Patriot that was pictured. As well as the Compass.
