Expectations? I'm a fan of his stand up, but i dont know if this is going to be that good. Just don't know if it will work out for his comedy. Also, it seems when standup comedians get their own show things usually dont work out or they aren't that funny. Examples: Important Things With Demitri Martin, Jeff Foxworthy Show*, Bill Engvall Show*, among others. website- http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/j...am/index.jhtml
By the way, anyone know what kind of format this show is supposed to be(MadTv type sketches or what)?
*= unfunny ones.

He played a brand new trailer for the audience (the question remains is this one of the "youre the first ever to see this" deals?) and it looks really funny. As with any of the comedian shows that end up on Comedy Central, I'm a bit leary of how it will actually turn out.

I really like Tosh.0 and Demetri Martin's show though. Daniel Tosh might actually be my favorite stand-up comedian at the moment.

Unfortunately, mass appeal and bland often go hand in hand. That's what makes an exception like Dave Chappelle so valuable for TV networks. |

Important Things with Demetri Martin definitely has its moments, but like Jared said, it seems to appeal more to the hipster crowd, who are probably too busy out smoking clove cigarettes while listening to Godspeed You! Black Emperor! to watch.

I watched Dunhams "Arguing with Myself" special (which I thought was hilarious) with someone that isn't "with it" and they had a dumbfounded look on their face the entire time.
Faster paced humor isn't for everyone. Quote:

Arguing with myself is one of my favorite shows but if this show compares to Spark of Insanity it will fail quickly.
IMHO
God Bless, Ray

Faster paced humor isn't for everyone. | Faster paced? Maybe I need to give him another chance, but I thought he was rather bland & predictable. But I think what bothered me most was that he had touches of the Carlos Mencia, "stereotypes are funny in and of themselves" jokes but delivered by the puppets. I think that's my problem with ventriloquist comics to begin with. They always end up delivering the just slightly off-color jokes by proxy in the form of their dummies while the "guy" looks offended. It's just weird.
And just to be clear, I have nothing against offensive comedy - IF it's funny, clever, thought provoking or ideally all three. He and Mencia just don't hit any of those marks for me. |
