Jerry Reed--off to the great swamp in the sky

Sign in to disble this ad
passed away today

if you haven't ever heard him, check him out...if you only know him for his comedy music, check out some of his work with chet atkins...he is a one-of-a-kind and could play the heck out of that nylon-stringed acoustic

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin',
we're gonna do what they say can't be done.
We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I'm east bound, just watch ol' "Bandit" run.

Keep your foot hard on the pedal. Son, never mind them brakes.
Let it all hang out 'cause we got a run to make.
The boys are thirsty in Atlanta and there's beer in Texarcana.
And we'll bring it back no matter what it takes.

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin',
we're gonna do what they say can't be done.
We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I'm east bound, just watch ol' "Bandit" run.

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin',
we're gonna do what they say can't be done.
We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I'm east bound, just watch ol' "Bandit" run.

Ol' Smokey's got them ears on and he's hot on your trail.
He aint gonna rest 'til you're in jail.
So you got to dodge 'im and you got to duck 'im,
you got to keep that diesel truckin'.
Just put that hammer down and give it hell.

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin',
we're gonna do what they say can't be done.
We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I'm east bound, just watch ol' "Bandit" run.
I love Jerry Reed!!!!!!! Some of the coolest 70's country out there.

Keep pickin' in the sky my brother!!!!

Man, I just heard about this and I'm heart broken. He is one of my favorite guitarist and personalities.

Last week while I was on the road, w/ guitarist Zander Wyatt, we were talking about him and the fact that Z plays with his Jerry Reed's grandson: Jerry Roe (who happens to be the son of David Roe, Johnny Cash's long time bassist).

rest in peace Jerry!

Man, this sucks. Within the last week, I'd been on a Jerry Reed kick watching videos of him and Chet Atkins on Youtube. He was a hell of a guitar player and great songwriter. R.I.P.

another great story told by a former guitar instructor--years back, a friend of his got a call for some session work with jerry, needless to say he was a bit intimidated, and while he was playing through the charts before the take, jerry took a phone call...jerry picks up the phone, turns to the guitarist and yells out, "keep playin, son--i'm talkin with this ear and listenin with the other!"

Sad news. Jerry was one of a kind and one of my top 5 guitarists of all time. He was a master of guitar who had the unusual ability to make you feel totally relaxed while he was blowing your mind with his playing. Seems all the great ones are going away........

Damn. He was on the fence previously of making it onto my "Great Mix CD of Showing Band What Music Good Is," his untimely passing just secured him a spot.
