JFK Assassination

Sign in to disble this ad
Today marks the 47th anniversary of the day that JFK was assassinated in Dallas. Are any of you (besides myself) old enough to remember where you were when you got the news? I was in a wood shop class in 7th grade.

I'm too young, but I think Munji was alive when Lincoln got shot.

Wasn't he there at the Burr-Hamilton duel too?

Third grade, I guess I was about 7 or 8, our teacher came in crying and sent us home, didn't tell us why, I got home and my Mom was sitting in front of the TV crying, and I was like, "What the heck is going on?"
Then she told me. I forget if they had officially announced his death yet, but I seem to remember Walter Cronkite choking up a little when he did finally announce it, but that could be just from seeing that bit replayed back a million times since. I can't really remember how I felt about it, I think it was more like I was confused, as in "Why would anyone do that?"

Abraham Lincoln was not shot. He faked his death, using the immense gambling debts of Booth to pressgang him into co-conspiricy. This freed Lincoln from his obligations as president and husband, allowing him to use his secret discovery of time travel to become...Abraham Lincoln: Time Pirate!

I was in 6th grade, I remember it well. Also on that day, C.S. Lewis and Aldous Huxley died, but of natural causes.

I was not in school yet but playing in the yard with neighbors and remember all the mothers coming out and herding us inside telling us to be quiet that something terrible had happened. But what I really recall even more vividly was when Oswald was shot, how shocked my mother and later my father were to see that it was Jack Ruby, they had met Ruby several years earlier.

Something about a 8-bit Abraham Lincoln replacing Simon as the main character makes me smile

I was in 2nd grade, living in Seattle. When we came back from lunch Mrs Bartell had her head on her desk and had been crying and told os the President had been shot. Mr Rhyles, the principal, came in and told us school was closed and to go home. Watched the sad news on TV with mom. Some things you just don't forget.
For three days that was all that was on TV. The funeral, the procession, the capture, Oswald's death. Dark days.
