Or how ever you spell his last name, just announced that the band for his late night show will be The Roots. Might give me a reason to actually watch his show as he isn't funny at all. I wonder is Ben will be there.

Ah crap.

I was really going to make it a point NOT to watch his show. If this is true then I'll at least have to check it out.

If they're smart they won't have him do sketches since his time on SNL proved he can't go 30 seconds without breaking character and giggling into the camera.

He is taking over for Conan, when he takes over for Leno, when Leno moves to 10. Follow?

I just hope that he breaks into the role eventually, Conan's first year or so was really rough. Then he hit his groove and absolutely took over late night. I hope he doesn't change when he moves up a time slot and I hope he finds some interesting way to get rid of this set like he did last time.

Eh, I dunno. Conan isn't funny unless you've smoked a bunch of pot.

conan's great, jimmy fallon though is another story. i guess fallon's actual jokes can be funny, but any "acting" whether it be skits or impressions is just horrible. also, why wont leno just go away?

I've been saying for the last year or so that Leno wouldn't be able to do it. He's not wired like Carson where he could just leave the spotlight. But then Carson always seemed like a very private guy doing a very public job where Leno seems to relish being around celebrities, but more just people in general. I'm not surprised that even with the long lead time (didn't they announce this plan five years ago?) he's having trouble letting go.

That said, while he seems like he's a genuinely good guy, I just don't think Jay Leno is funny. I'm happy Conan is finally moving into his slot.

i couldnt agree more. and yes, i think it was announced in 04 or 05. good for conan too on putting in a clause in his contract that if nbc reneged, he would still get a good chunk of change. that plus nbc being wrapped around leno's finger is why we will see the change we will. good lord.

OMG!! Jimmy Fallon got the gig??
Compared to those who've previously had that timeslot (Letterman, Conan), he's got his work cut out for him. I don't even stay up for Conan, and I'm a big fan of his.

I guess I'll be tuning in to this tonight. Mostly for the Roots (maybe Hub will come back to play with them!). I do not have high hopes for Fallon.

..... and they used big words so even if you were up watching, most of it would probably go right over your head and you'd just laugh 'cuz everyone else is.

hub isn't back.

a couple interesting things i read

1. questlove made a comment about the them making more money in a year of doing this than in a year of being on the road for 200 days. not bad

2. owen biddle ( i think that's his last name) is the only member of the band that moved to ny for this, the rest are commuting everyday from philly by bus. that's kinda weird

That means they'll most likely be crashing at Owen Biddle's new place 5 nights a week.

Leno arguably has the finest private motor vehicle collection in the world. If I were him I would want more free time to play with my toys...

I used to like Fallon's style when he co-anchored the fake SNL news. He definitely will bring a twentysomething edge which might be cool for 12:30. Will probably take a while to find his stride - hopefully not too long.

IMO Conan's monologues were never that spectacular but I loved a lot of the scripted bits he'd do. Be curious to see how he does earlier when he has to tone down the more twisted stuff (which of course was my favorite). He also made fun of his own show a lot - won't have that to use as much now that he's got the primo gig.

Who is this Jay Leno to whom you keep referring?
