Just kidding

Go to a retail store, like Target or Menards. You can usually just apply there, so apply at a bunch and see if you get any calls. You could hit six or seven stores in an afternoon.

I wouldn't recommend it. A woman who attends my church is vegetarian, not because of her morals but because meat is so disgusting to her she can't be near it. She vomited at a cookout just because she was upwind of the grill

my point is,
He has no experience, he's 16, he's late at getting a summer job....
Can't be picky, take what ever goes by...

Well. go out apply everywhere, I mean eveywhere. In these time you cant afford to be picky. Heck ive got 13 years of work experience and im working for a Wal-mart distrubition center. Anyway aslo you might not be able to get a paying job right off the bat, so my advice would to voulnteer and work your way into a job. You get lots of experience as well, anyway best of luck.

Good luck. I've applied at at least 75-100 places ranging from Taco Bell to Retail to Sales...I've had 3 call backs and 2 interviews.

Depending on your city, I'd take what you can get. I have an interview at KMart on Thursday and I'm filling out applications for every Marshall's & TJ Maxx from the Loop north in Chicago.

If someone offers you a job, TAKE IT, no matter how tough or embarrassing it might be.

I'm 22, just got out of college with a Bachelor's degree and can't find work. And yes, I've been applying to retail establishments as well.

Basically, there are people with degrees applying for the same jobs you are... you're low man on totem pole so take anything you can get.

Just find a job that only the immigrants normally do - as in, no skill/language demands. Someone with a dislike of foreigners be happy to have a 16 year old whitey doing the dishes in the kitchen.

My daughter just turned 16 and I made her get a job (as in "I'm not giving you one dime this summer - if you want money you need to earn it yourself"). She just started washing dishes at a local restaurant 25 hours/week for minimum wage.

Haha, exactly what my dad did as well. I thought about heading to the local health food store [one of one MAYBE two in my city]. Vegetarian friendly, so seems like a score, hopefully they're hiring :]

If you pick what you "WANT" you might not be lucky, I could bet you won't be.
Also retail will force you to lift boxes that weigh over 40lbs, ive had 2 job in retail (3 total, first was at wendys) in an electronic shop and the other, my current, in a hardware store and you will most likely lift boxes that weighs over 40lbs, near guaranteed.

Also see it as a something temporary get the 1st job that comes by, no matter what it is, then try to find better. It's better that way as your gaining money and experience instead of sittingon your butt saying it's not good enough for you.

edit: I'll be a bit nceir and giva ya tips
when you go bring your CV and the application form (it's imperative to have a CV even if they don't ask for one) hand it to the manager or the asst-manager, be sure to have a good handshake and all those crap. ALSO don't be scared to call after 3-4 days asking if they would still use ure help because u got no call or w/e, it doesn't hurt and it show interest.

You could probably get work as a bass stand for John Turner's double neck 7 string. I believe it is just under your 40lbs max lifting weight and rumour has it that JT pays above minimum wage.
