Jobs that pass the time well/don't drive you nuts

I've got to get a job...

I've previously worked with Target and Kohls.

I'd prefer not to work in a store like that, simply because I wasn't doing anything to pass the time well...you know...it feels like you've been there for 7 hours when it's only been 2.

Anybody recommend waiting tables or something of that sort?

In fact, any job recommendations are welcome.

Andrew

Any job that'll keep you busy.

I'm extremely productive if it keeps me from being bored.

Used to work in a lumberyard... that yard was spotless because I was always straightening up the lumber pikes. I'd straighten up lumber stacks, restock, fill up the gas in the forklifts, wash the trucks, etc. Better than the alternative of boredom.

My younger daughter is a server at a small business-owned pizza place that's well established. If you work at a restaurant that has good management and does decent business, you stay darn busy and the tips are good. Worth checking! the challenge is to find a place that meets both criteria.

Some form of driving job might be interesting.

I used to drive a parts delivery truck for a company that sold and repaired Great Dane trailers and TheromKing refrigeration units. I liked being out on the road. It gave me a change of scenery from the shop. I also got to go where I wanted to eat lunch rather than buying the usual junk from the lunch wagon.

Bartender.

You get to meet a lot of interesting people and it's not a very difficult or demanding job, but you have to know what you're doing and at a decent place you will be kept busy - no time for goofing off - and this makes the shift go faster. You should also make out pretty well with decent tips unless you're working in a stink hole.

You could always sell yourself to 100 fat chicks for $100.

I admit that I've thought about sperm donating...but I don't like the idea of another woman, other than my wife, walking around with my kid...

Agh(!)

Baking is good. Steady work, keeps you busy, doesn't tax the mind or spirit, and there's never a need to even think about the job at the the end of the day.

I'm going to second the lumberyard suggestion and add "construction" as another alternative. You get to work outside and simply don't have the time to get bored.

Any type of craft or assembly job. Before I took over the shipping and receiving position at my job I'd mostly do machine assembly. I love putting things together, so time would just fly.

I work in a CD shop. When there's not many people in there it gets a bit slow, but at least you can put whatever music/movies on that you like. Get to chat to people who come in whether it's about the stuff in store in not. Easy relaxed atmosphere because even the manager's are all musicians or interested in it of some sort and live that lifestyle.
