Like them both, though id probably have to say John Wayne.

I always liked the way that he was never really playing a character, that is actually the type of person he is. Realistically you could say he was a terrible actor

I'm surprised John Wayne is getting votes. Come on, Clint Eastwood had a get off my lawn scene!

I never could get into John Wayne honestly.

For the purposes of this contest I'm going to have to pretend that The Bridges of Madison County does not exist.

Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven > John Wayne in anything

Kelly's Heroes, Escape from Alacatraz, Unforgiven and any movie with an orangutan named Clyde jump out as my favorites and are far better than anything starring John Wayne. Wayne was just so over the top stylistically that he became a parody of himself.

To quote Denis Leary:

"John Wayne had cancer twice. Second time, they took out one of his lungs. He said, 'Take 'em both! I don't ****in' need 'em! I'll grow gills and breathe like a fish!'"

And then there is The Man With No Name. Epic. Bad***.

I can't choose!

You know who I think is kind of comparable to John Wayne in this generation? Kurt Russell. He kind of always plays his one style in whatever movie he's in and you either like that style or you don't. I tend to like Kurt Russell but it's probably because I grew up with him.

There is no more over-the-top Kurt Russell role than Jack Burton in Big Trouble in Little China (although Snake Plissken in Escape from New York comes close).

But Clint never played Genghis Khan. The Duke did. Horribly miscast, but still...

Given that I was named after a John Wayne film (Big Jake), I have to go with the Duke.

Well if you wanted to make it a better analogy, you should've used Nicholas Cage.

One of my favorite effing actors of all time.

When I was a kid, Clint was young and cool, and John Wayne was getting older and less cool. Not that I didn't appreciate Duke in his prime, I watched it all, over and over, esp. the WWII stuff. But Clint was just cutting edge, and his movies were new and fresh and I soaked them up in my youth.

Both upper crust, top notch, all-timers...

But for me, Clint.

Oh man, Clint Eastwood would smoke John Wayne! Not only that, he'd deliver a killer line right before doing so (he may even finish things up by spitting chewed tobacco on Wayne's forehead).

Come on people! Clint Eastwood is a musician and a major patron of music, he produced and directed Bird, and most importantly, he wasn't born with a girl's name

hahahahahaha if ever there was a poll that needed carrots in it , it's this one.
John Wayne, The Duke was the man, and probably would have b*tch slapped Clint before the guns would have been drawn. Both completely hammered from drinking whiskey and playing poker beforehand. hahahahahaha

OK; mind you I'm not a huge fan, but for those who don't *get* The Duke(not namin' no names, BC/tq ), watch The Cowboys. If for no other reason then JW gets offed early on. That said, I can't decide either. it's kinda like this: Cage match:Munchkins vs Oompa-Loompas
The outcome is still up in the air.

But you see, Clint is too cool for physical b*tch slapping. He b*tch slaps with his tongue (maybe that didn't sound quite the way I intended...) and then finishes his point with a bullet! Oh, and Clint would probably have cooler music backing him up...
