It's a judge. This is exactly what I was expecting. Judges (IME. And I'm speaking as a professional working *with* them in multiple facets, not as a defendant or anything like that) are some of the most corrupt people on the planet.

if you read the article you'd see the statute of limitations came into play. However the judge has been removed from hearing child abuse cases and is now publicly shamed by the country. Chances are probably close to 0 he'll be re-elected to his job. still stinks he won't get to visit prison on those charges though.

I did love his comment though that the video made it look worse than it really was.

....but.

He has to live with a globally outraged planet who a) knows who he is, b) has seen what he's done.

Friends, associates, family, old acquaintences, neighbors, all know what he did and they all saw it. To the world, he is guilty as charged and has to live with that from now on.

Yup, doesn't matter if he's a judge or a truck driver, It happened too long ago for him to be charged. It sucks, but that is the law. At least, with all the attention this is getting he's not totally getting away with it.
As an aside, Last night there was suposedly something (I didn't catch the detaiols) that the judge was trying to lay the blame on the daughter for the incident. Has anyone else heard this, and do you know what specifically he's claiming? I would love to hear what kind of lame reason this sorry excuse for a father could possibly come up with.

Statute of limitations is a good thing. The more time that passes between an event and a trial the less reliable the evidence becomes.

I would be interested in learning more also. This "judge" is a real treat.

He's apparently claiming that she released the video because he told her he was reducing her support and taking her Mercedes away. He also claimed he was doing this because she's not doing anything with her life other than working in a video store.

You can bet they are doing their best to keep themselves looking like model citizens in this situation.

From CNN:
Aransas County Attorney Richard Bianchi said his office was also overwhelmed with calls and e-mails, including some from overseas, since the video went viral on the Internet.

"Just a sad day. It's unfortunate for all the people in that video. It doesn't bode well for the image of our community or our judiciary or our legal community in Aransas County," Bianchi said.

In the first place, I wouldn't necessarily place any credence in anything he might say to excuse this. Secondly, who cares why she released it when she did, the fact is he did it and deserves all the derision he's getting plus a whole lot more. The situation is all on him, not her. blaming the victim isn't gonna help his case any. IMO, it actually makes it worse for him.

This is true, However, the evidence in this case seems quite solid to me, although I realize it doesn't really matter in the context of the law. Too bad. If anyone deserves prosecution for child abuse, it's this guy.
