Junk emails galore! help?

Sign in to disble this ad
So Im not sure when this happened or how but it seems that somebody has sold my information down the river. I usually got about 2 or 3 junk emails a day but starting last week Ive been sorting through about 35 a day. All sorts of random ones that Ive never even heard of. The worst part is that my phone notifies me of emails and these places tend to send out their junk at like 2am.
Is there any tips from you guys that will help me with this? Ive been clicking on each one and "unsubscribing" which seems to help but its still a major pain to deal with.

On a totally unrelated note I am receiving my first SX today.... but I have to go to work now so playing it will be delayed. None the less I am stoked.

i have three email accounts for this purpose. one is for signing up for anything on the internet. one is for friends and family. one is for business purposes. i would also suggest gmail over everything else. it has an excellent junk mail filter.

Yup Gmail is excellent. If I keep getting junk mail from the same sender I just filter out his name or 'keyword' and it goes directly to my trash. Love it.

You could also turn your phone off at night if it keeps waking you up

Sometimes unscrupulous companies have a mass mailing tool that sends out e-mails to random addresses. By pressing "unsubscribe" you are actually acknowledging that there is an e-mail address that someone checks, and now they have a known good email address for them to send more advertising, and to generate potential revenue. just delete them is the best course of action.

Most webmail providers (Hotmail, G-mail, and others) offer a spam filter. you should look through the settings and see if there is a way to add the offending e-mailer to a black list.

If you don't use a webmail based solution for your e-mail needs, try contacting your ISP and they might be able to add it to the list of spam generating addresses to filter.

Like everyone else has said, multiple email accounts and a good spam filter really help.

SPams a pain no way to avoid it, gmail is great, get an account immediately.

Try running an exchange server with 2000 users that send garbage to and from every where and not having the money to put up a decent filter. I have users that get 200 spam messages a day. But will they stop forwarding the funny pictures, jokes and stop signing up for porn with their work address... NOPE.

Like everyone else said get a hotmail or yahoo for all your crap, and then get a gmail for a important business.

Never do that, doing that raises your risk of prostate cancer.

Actually I have been getting some hilarious SPAM recently and I would feel I had missed out, if I never saw them...so one was signed from Kofe Anan at the UN , saying that the Nigerian Govt had got some money for me - I might dig it out at some point - every detail was so bogus, no comedian could have done a better job at parodying this kind of thing!!
