Junk Food Tolerance Levels

Sign in to disble this ad
As I get older, I find that my body just doesn't tolerate junk food very well anymore. I used to be able to operate at peak performance on Pepsi and Slim Jims in my youth, but not anymore. I ate at McDonalds today, and found myself feeling pretty sick afterwards. Just last year, a Big Mac would have been decent fuel to keep working. But now, my body works to expel it quickly instead of turning it into energy. I never anticipated this part of the aging process.

Has this happened to anyone else?
What's your junk food tolerance level?

Mine's still pretty high.

Good thing because I start work in a candy factory next week!

I don't really like junk food. I would rather have real food.

I can't eat greasy crap like I used to. Onion rings are just a fond memory these days.

Anything with the prefix "Flamin Hot" I am all over however. Mmmmm Mmmmmm!

First, welcome back. Missed your post in OT.

Similar problem.
I gave up fast food like that long ago and I know I couldn't tolerate it today. At the young age of 42, right around Christmas last year I had the dreaded acid reflux disease creep up on me. Eating a Big Mac probably would have killed me. I would have exploded like that guy in Monty Python.

I wasn't exactly eating bad food either. It just so happens I was eating everything that would aggravate that condition. Anyway, yeah, our bodies change and we have to eat better. Friggin crap, I tell ya!

I'm feeling ya', j. I still do some fast food sometimes but I can't do that like I used to. I suffer from acid reflux too but I take a daily Prilosec and it usually contains that.

I can still eat a pile of greasy burgers- I always get at 2 double-doubles at In & Out, as well as finishing off 1 or 1 1/2 full burgers' worth of the kids' discards; donuts(my only serious fully-junk-food habit)have turned on me. I want 3, but will absolutely regret it. I'm a very immature 45, for reference.

In N Out isn't really fast food.

I used to eat a freaking ton of it. When I worked in a warehouse, I'd eat at least one Big Mac a day for about 6 months. It was around the corner and tasted pretty OK so long as it was hot. My usual lunch consisted of the large Big Mac meal, 20 piece nuggets, 2 cheese burgers, and a diet coke. If I worked late and was hungry, I'd stop in after work as well and get pretty much the same thing.

I didn't get fat either. If anything I lost about 20 pounds, but I felt really ill by the end of it.

I also eat a lot more than the average person. Around 5-6000 calories on any given day. I'm not fat by any means, and I weigh about 245 pounds.

For about a year and a half I couldn't eat fast food. Then a friend of mine at a health food store gave me some free colon cleanser crap and I crapped out this disgusting crap. I felt much better! I don't eat it as often, but I can eat it again.

I'm with you Jive but I'm pushing through it. I just look at it as building your tolerance back up. You might not want that bag of doritos but you got to will yourself through it. Your mind has to take one for your team that makes up your body tolerance effort. You'll die young but you'll die happy. I blame the wives and all their good intentions. Not only is home cooking tastey, but the stuff is healthy as all hell. On another note, I can pound beers like a champ in my old age.

That's sig-worthy, right there.

I can't process a lot of stuff I used to tear up in mass quantities. Pizza Hut is instant regurgitation.

I'm 21 (and a day) and McDonald's always leave me a little ill. Not sick, but I get in some sort of larva mode for the time I digest.

At 34, I'm in the same boat. Doritos and whatnot don't have any ill effects, but I don't eat fastfood anymore. Probably just as well as the mere thought of that crap turns my stomach.

The worst is a crawfish boil. You know what's coming, but it's a meal I'd postpone sex for, so clearing my schedule afterwards and icing down the toilet paper seems worth it.

I had a similar issue with alcohol a few years ago. One day, 18-24 beers was a standard and I had a hangover I could shake with a taco and a bottle of water. The next day, I could barely choke down a sixpack and the hangover lasted days. On the plus side, it forced me to actually drink real beer (as opposed to Schlitz Blue Bull Ice).

Any large amounts of sugar / sodas really send me into turmoil. After all the picnicing this holiday, I really felt awful. I have been drinking less and less soda over the past year, as to wean off the sweeteners and the caffeine, and then to jump back in, damn. It has a negative reaction on me now, I feel sleepy from it.

Candy bars and all that, give me a headache. Fast food? Great way to feel something rip through my innards like a bullet train.

No thanks.

Same reason why I don't drink sweet drinks. Makes me puke.

I cannot eat anything anymore. I recently had some severe stomach issues and decided to cut everything that made me hurt out from my diet completely. I haven't had anything but grilled chicken and baked fish, and organic crap. Although I'm nearly pain free now, it sucks eating around all my friends that eat 1/2 pound cheese burgers!!! Another bad thing is that I haven't lost any weight, if anything I have gained weight! And to top it all off, I am a 15 years old, so all you old people need to deal with it.

I ate semi-regularly at McFood places until my mid thirties. I started to think more about the long term health consequences of scarfing down so much junk food that I pretty much gave it up for a few years.

But I remember one day in particular that I had a craving for a good, old fashioned BigMac, Fries and Coke so I got the McMeal for lunch. Just before bedtime, I found myself in and out of the can using up most of a roll of TP.

I've tried to go back to McD's and the other fast food places on occasion, but every time I do it's with a similar result: it makes me feel a bit ill and I get an industrial strength colon problem for the next 12 hours.

Just what the **** do they put in their food?

They have a secret ingredient called "Industrial Strength Colon Problem". It's like MSG, only it's supposed to make you feel like you got punched in the gut by a leprechaun right after drinking a gallon of the now-discontinued Kool-Aid made from cayenne pepper and jalapeno extract.
