Just got notified that I am getting layed off

Well just got out of my yearly performance review, and found out that I am getting layed off. Best part was that there really was not anything I could have done different. My last 30 days starts tomorrow. So if anyone knows of any IT jobs in the Atlanta area help a fellow bass player out.

Lucky you got 30 days. My friend found out Friday that his company is sending out an email on Wednesday to inform the staff of their future employment with the company, up to 40% of them won't be getting the "good" email.

Ouch. The pain sure seems to be spreading, not decreasing... Hope you'll be able to find help thru networking, temp agencies, or whatever works... I'm temporarily laid off (seasonal work) but so far as I know will be going back to work in March; but on the other hand, I'm one of the more senior people on staff at the hotel, and they could hire a new head housekeeper and pay her / him three or four dollars an hour less than I get, so it's a bit of a toss up. If the economy looked good, I'd say I'd be going back; but this end sure hasn't seen much of an upturn, so wouldn't surprise me at all to find out my 'temporary lay off' turns more permanent. In the meantime, got lots of things to keep me busy, including studying music theory harder and spending more time with the bass!

Sorry to hear it, gdt. Prayers for you.

You might go on to USA jobs. The Gub Mint usually has a lot of IT jobs and Uncle Sugar pays well in most cases. I know USA jobs is a pain to use but once you're in, well . . .

I am just glad to know something, the rumors have been floating around since last October.

When I was looking I would hit computerjobs.com, dice, monster etc. So time to dust off the resume and see what happens.

Damn you know the company has hit hard times when IT people are getting the axe. Good luck to you, there aren;t any jobs here.

I heard yesterday for the first time that we may be laying off up to 20% of our employees. They announced a voluntary lay off program about a month ago and hardly anyone bit, but the offer they gave was so paltry it should have been no surprise to anyone there would be no takers. Apparently management was surprised by the lack of response to their "offer", so we'll see what happens.

Best of luck to you. Might be time to get the resume put together and start marketing yourself NOW before a larger group of people starts looking for jobs. Who knows, even if you don't get the axe maybe something better could come along anyway?

Thanks, Today I am updating the resume and putting it on the job sites. Contacting any recruiters that I know are still active. Just trying to hit the ground running.

You have all my sympathies. I got the ax last Friday. Go apply for unemployment as soon as you can, update your resume, etc, etc. Like everyone else I'm sure you know the drill. Best of luck to you and may God help us all.
