As a joke I was going to put "my girlfriend thought it would be cool" but then OT would go up in flames.

Anyways. It seems pretty stupid. If you want to see them, go have lunch. If you want to talk, call them using your phone...

You're thoughts?

My thoughts?

It's way better than phone sex, use your webcam

Distance usually beats desire, its not something you do when you live nearby

What if you want to eat lunch with someone on a web cam?

Oh yeah. Well. I'm not in a long distance relationship nor do I have friends who live far away. To me... skype is pointless.

Quite honestly I completely forgot about this when I made the thread. All the people I know that use it, only talk to people a town or 2 away. I'd rather just ride my bike to their house and hang out.

understandable. i feel the same way about text messaging. which is why i don't have it for my phone. i don't want to have text conversation to everyone every other second. call me and have a conversation, or lets get together and do something, not thumb **** each other over the phone.

I fee the same way about phone conversations. Unless youre in some far off place that I cant access, and I havent seen you in quite some time, I dont really want to talk to you on the phone. Dont call me unless you have a purpose.

Skype isn't pointless, maybe you just don't have a use for it?

The operative phrase being "to me." As a service member stationed literally half the planet away from some of my loved ones, I truly appreciate it. I can talk to (and see) family in the states for free.

Use Skype to video conference with my boss when she isn't at the uni.

Also found it to be more stable in the background when running games than MSN messenger

Not to mention that free is cheaper than a mobile phone call.

It certainly helped me when I was deployed in Iraq. I could call anyone in the States right from my computer, which made it easy to keep up with family, conduct normal home business (purchases, utilities, etc), never mind communicating with my girlfriend.

To me, it's been invaluable.

Ah yes, i'll just hop on a plane, fly 4 to 6 hours, have a chat and then fly back again at the budget price of only $800 in airfares

As far as the phone comment, long distance calls cost money, skype is free... What is not to like?

For international conversations it beats phones in any way. There is even a skype app for iphones (I have it on my touch so i could chat over wifi).

I use it when either my girlfriend or I am away. Quite useful.

My girlfriend is currently in France for 3 months and with Skype I`m able to talk to her for free whenever I want to. Not only that, but I also get to video chat with her and the quality is amazing (especially considering it`s free as well). It`s made what could be a relationship deal breaker something manageable and even worthwhile. It`s been an invaluable tool and one I would readily pay good money for. Hell, if all my friends and family had Skype I`d have (almost) no need for a cell phone or home phone anymore. I love it!
