Just lost a friend

A friend of mine passed away yesterday from bone cancer. My friend, Steve Lacroix of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, age 63, was an avid musician and a former owner of a mom and pop music store in his home town. He was especially fond of G&L guitars and basses, and Larivee acoustic guitars.

The strange thing about it is that Steve and I never met. We were friends over the Internet, first at a now defunct guitar forum, then later on Facebook. I always wanted to make the trip to Minnesota to meet him and his wife, but unfortunately that'll never happen now. Steve and I were kindred spirits, with much the same tastes and viewpoints, so we enjoyed discussing things on Facebook.

I kind of find it a strange thing that friendships can develop without ever actually meeting face to face. I'm sure future generations will not find this strange at all.

So sorry for your loss.

My future in-laws are from Deer River, MN so I've spent a lot of time in Grand Rapids and I bet I've visited that music store as it's the only one I ever came across in that town.

Hang in there. It will get easier with time. Once the initial wave of grief subsides try and think of all the great interactions you had.

Sorry to hear, man.

A friend of mine passed away Christmas Night due to head trauma suffered in a car accident.
