I don't give a damn about the sports aspect of it (except it goes to show how some fans take it too far), but the guy was an idiot for not listening to his boss.

I would not buy a car from a guy wearing a Packers tie.

I love my Steelers, but no way I would pull a stunt like that.

honestly it is a level of respect to the job to not wear tacky ties featuring cartoons, sports teams, and any "ugly pattern". in the boss' position i would have warned/fired the person even if it were a bears tie or mickey mouse for that matter.

i wouldn't be surprised if the packers tie is a violation of employee code of conduct under appropriate dress.

Salespersons only make money for themselves and their employers by being as appealing and likable as possible to every potential customer. If you wear an item of clothing that identifies you as partisan in some way (sports, politics, music, etc..) this automatically alienates a certain percentage of your prospects.

In this case, a car salesman in Chicago wearing a Packers tie while trying to sell cars to interested customers is just being stupid and he should be fired. If I were working there, I'd be a bit ticked off if my fellow salesman pulled a stunt like that.

IMO, the boss was not being asinine or stupid. He asked the guy to remove his tie, which in that situation was a perfectly reasonable request, and the guy refused. At that point the boss was well within his rights to fire the guy for insubordination.
