To many, it's similar to sports. I hear in South Korea professional gamers are treated like pro athletes

One of them has actually had the nerve to tell me how a song goes after hearing me play it on drums. His source of info - the track of the song on RockBand.
If the hours that kids spend gaming were applied to a musical instrument, we'd have an Army of amazing musicians coming up.
