Kim Clijsters wins U.S. Open women's title

Sign in to disble this ad
Belgian Kim Clijsters won the U.S. Open women's tennis title on Sunday beating Caroline Wozniacki, 7-5, 6-3. The unseeded Clijsters returned to professional tennis four weeks ago after taking a two-year break to get married and become a mother - her daughter is now 18 mos. old. Clijsters is the first unseeded woman to win the Open — and the first mom to win a major since 1980.

Congratulations!

Kim really deserved to win this tournament.

Oh, and Federer won again. Yippee.

One of his typical shots:

Ho hum.

Just kidding. Congratulations to Federer! The way he was cracking off shots like that the whole game I expected to see a red "S" on his shirt. Djokovic was playing the best tennis of his life but he didn't stand a chance.

I'm happy for them both! Federer is unreal...reminds me of Pete Sampras, before he gold old (like me). Clijsters is remarkable! It's awesome to see!

As far as Williams goes...loved her tirade!

Go Kim !

I saw the Federer-Djocovic match...amazing. Just when you're thinking that Federer is playing at 100% he goes into turbo.

Absolutely brilliant player.

Not takin the bait....not takin the bait....not takin the bait...lol I was 30% kinda going for Clijsters because I love comeback stories like hers. Federer is just rediculous. Congrats to the both of them.

I was rooting for Caroline Wozniacki, 'cause she's a babe.

Honestly, watching her go through the U.S. open really hit home the fact that I screwed up big time by letting tennis fall by the wayside.

And, you know, not being Danish.

He won his semifinal match yesterday, yeah. The men's side is not over just yet, might want to hold off on the congratulations.

+1 she is a babe, It's too bad Wozniacki lost.....I was cheering for her. What a beautiful and classy girl. She is a winner nevertheless.
Denmark and Poland are proud of her. I liked the fact that she spoke in Danish to her 'countrymen" and then in Polish to the country of her parents. Give her a year or two and she will be a winner in one of the Grand slam events !!!

Federer added to his misery by serving miserably throughout the match -- his first serve percentage was 50 percent.

That was his doom.

I will say again: I saw some great tennis this weekend.

I agree, great tennis during the whole weekend.

It`s been the first time in my life I didn`t want Federer to win.
Del Potro played excellent and I certainly didn`t expect he could stand the pressure.
