That's cool. Wouldn't have thought about the shelf, myself. And after watching that, I realized that he's done his homework... solid bulkhead, curtains, glassless cargo area. The man's a genius.

Thumbs up

Mike Watt is just plain cool.

On a slightly braggy note: He used to let my old band practice in his army barracks rehearsal spot in San Pedro. It was a total punk rock dive inside but had the same kind of unpretentious cool as his unassuming plain white econo.

Mike Watt is great

Anything Watt does is cool. It's quite obvious that he has his van dialed in to exactly what works for him. Years and years of experience will teach you a thing or two about what works and what doesn't.

I mean, I've seen some really cool stuff done to vans working in a lumberyard for four and a half years. Some contractors have the same "do what works for you" attitude about their vans. One contractor had a system of two shelves that ran the entire length of the back of the van... just a few inches high each. One for plywood, and one for lumber... and he still had a workable floor above that for his tools.

Watt's the man. He seemed baked.

I drive/ride in one of those Ford vans to work and back 4 times a week. You get those crosswinds whipping up off of the Salt Flats or the West Desert, and it makes the trip a bit of a white knuckler.

Yeah. I-80 through WY is the worst when it comes to wind. They shut that stretch down a few times a year because of it.
