Kinda hard to feel too sympathetic for this fella

Guy steals a motorbike during a robbery at a dealer on 12th August. Police stand by and do not give pursuit because the robbers are not wearing helmets. What the heck is that all about? Anyway...

Somehow the police pick him up afterwards and charge him in connection with the 12th August crime. He gets bailed until 10th September.

26th August, a motorcycle is stolen during a burglary not a million miles away from this chain of events.

4th September, the guy on bail dies after he crashes whilst riding the bike stolen during the burglary nine days earlier.

I wonder what the owner of the bike is thinking this week? Interesting, yes?

Paperwork. I imagine that if there is a fatality caused by a police pursuit, it'll trigger an untold amount of form-filling as well as potentially leaving Plod open to being sued.

They're damned everywhichway - if the accused had had an accident that killed someone else, teh fuzz would get it in the neck for that too.

That's kind of ironic because from what I hear most times they won't hesitate to ram you right off the road to make you stop if they're in pursuit, which can kill you just as dead as not wearing a helmet.

I'm glad they didn't chase after this guy though. I don't really condone high speed chases because it endangers civilians lives, the officers lives, and even the suspect's life. Let the helicopter just follow the car in question until it arrives at it's destination, the other cops can still tail him from a safe distance and make the arrest then.
