Well... apparently it is now official.
I've been holding off a Kindle purchase... awaiting the 2.0. But... I will be holding even longer now since I was really looking forward to a color display, use with textbooks, and a housing color other than that dreadful looking white.
I think Amazon failed miserably in this "upgrade." |

Example: How about being able to do a audio recording of a lecture and sync it along with the textbook?

That is, display text without eyestrain and run for weeks without charging. The Kindle and other E ink readers do not draw power until you turn a page. It's like a fancy etch a sketch not like a computer screen that has glare and flicker. Additionally, netbooks need a wifi spot or a cell phone service to download books. the Kindle does not need a computer nor wifi to get content. It will work (for free) anywhere that there is a 3G network.
The Kindle almost does for books what the iPod does for music. |

However, don't think I'll make the switch, I like have a fire hazard pile of books lying around

Dig I love this thing. As a gun owner in Kali I can carry the exact text of the law whenever I go shooting with my "questionable" pieces and show anyone challenging the legality of the weapons what the law says
As a knife carrier, I can carry the text of the knife laws as well |

Only diffference is that they were under the Rogers 3G network here, not their native one there. If the UK has a 3G provider, it should work. |

Much of the rest of the world has 3G. Verizon is the one that has the nonstandard EV-DO network but Kindle is on Sprint's 3G network.
Btw, I can do the laws and download all the free books on my iPhone too. Actually there is a kindle app for iPhone but I haven't downloaded it. Of course those things are going to be easier to read on the kindle.

Page three.
It states that Quote:
What happens when I leave the U.S. for my Grand Tour of Europe?
The Kindle will still switch on, and you'll be able to happily read books on it.
You'll also be able to transfer books directly to the Kindle using the USB cable.
However, the wireless feature won't work outside of the United States (and even
a few areas inside the U.S.). That means you won't be able to order books from
the Amazon Kindle store and have them delivered wirelessly to the Kindle. You
also won't be able to browse the web from the Kindle.
