We have a really huge problem over here with our legal system bending over backwards to be lenient to offenders and treating them way better than their victims. I and many others find it totally disgusting. |
Sadly there's crap like that going on all over the place:

Sheriff Michael Fletcher at Perth temporarily suspended a curfew that prevented Scott Shepherd (23) leaving his bail address between 11.30pm and 6am during the week and 7pm and 6am on Saturdays and Sundays.
Shepherd, of Ferguson Park, Rattray, is alleged to have repeatedly stabbed local man Colin Bissett near Gig Nightclub in Blairgowrie on May 16.
It is further alleged that Shepherd and a second accused scarred another man for life with a glass bottle.
The Crown was previously opposed to altering Shepherd's bail conditions, afraid he might flee to Spain to escape prison.
Depute fiscal Lucy Keane said previously that the "very serious nature" of the charges meant he should not be given the chance to avoid the court's jurisdiction.
However, the court heard Shepherd had booked the two-week trip to the Spanish island before charges were brought against him and had already paid out a "considerable" amount of cash.
When the matter recalled on Friday, depute fiscal Stuart Richardson made no objection to the application.
Without any further comment, Sheriff Fletcher allowed Shepherd's special bail conditions to be relaxed between August 29 and September 15.

Also, factor in that two of his accomplices fled the day after the stabbing and (as far as I'm aware) they are still in hiding abroad.
What makes this worse, is I know the guys who were attacked. So, I guess it isn't really as bad as a lot that goes on, but still. It's a complete joke of a system.
Have to admit, one thing the US got right is the 3 strike law, the streets of my home town would be a heck of a lot cleaner with a law like that (the vast majority of major crime comes from 2-3 families)
