Kurt Cobain Signed Nirvana CD - how to sell?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I wasn't sure it should be in "recordings" or here.

A friend of mine has a Nirvana CD he had signed personally by Kurt Cobain back at the Nevermind release party (Sept 92?)

He's interested in selling it

where one could get something like that authenticated (if that's even possible). that's specifically what I'm looking for here - if anyone here has any ideas - are there people out there - say, memorabilia places that can do that?

and I apologize if this is out of line.

Unfortunately there is no way to authenticate that sort of thing. There are loads of signature-collecting websites and memorabilia sellers who could compare it against something else signed by Cobain and say "yeah it looks similar", but that and $5 will get you a cup of coffee.

Best bet is to sell it on Ebay directly, with the assertion from him "I am the person who collected this signature from Cobain". That's provenance. Unfortunately that's the only provenance he has, so it will have to do for anyone who is interested in buying it.

This wouldn't establish the authenticity of the signature, but I've seen videos of the performance that evening on youtube. If your friend could establish that he was there that evening, that might go a long way for a potential buyer.

Yeah, if he doesn't have a photograph, there isn't much that can be done. It's not like Kurt can turn up and say he did sign it. Sadly, this means the value of it will probably take a hit.

the sentimental value should / will be more than the cash-in value at this point.

I think he's detached from any particular outcome, but it does have value.

he was around the area in Seattle when Nirvana and others, were just garage bands.

Yeah, if it was mine I'd keep it! Cool item.

Ebay seems like the best route.

I don't know for sure, but here is a tip with selling Nirvana memorabilia. The more the potential customer looks like a bowery bum rolled in axel grease and petroulli (sp?) the more they are likely willing to pay.

No proof other than his word. He was there when Kurt signed it for him.

I have a friend in the business and without proof (original tickets to the event, pictures of your friend at the signing, etc.) he said that they are shiny beer coasters.

Your best bet is a sentimental superfan on ebay that doesn't care. Even authentic autographs that are guaranteed for life to be authentic don't fetch much more than a few bucks.

Well that sucks.

I've got an autographed back cover for Gish signed by James and Billy- I also have a Gish tour poster signed by all 4 Smashing Pumpkins.
