Happy Paddy's Day to you all - to everyone in Ireland, and to all you Plastic Paddys everywhere else.

A few thoughts for those of you in the US though:
1) Nobody in Ireland drinks green beer and they laugh at anyone who does.
2) It's Paddy, not Patty. Patty is short for Patricia, and I don't think they made women into saints back then!
3) Nobody in Ireland will be eating corned beef and cabbage tonight - it's more likely to be a post-pub kebab and chips.

So, drink lots, make merry and sláinte!

I have a gig tonight, so I'll be quaffing plenty of green beer, and maybe a bit of whisky as well.

I'm sure corned beef will be on special, and if the band gets it cheap, I'll have a heaping helping of that as well.

All in all, I think tonight is going to ROCK!!! \m/ \m/

I'll be playing at Paddy's Pub in Ferney, France tonight for all the English speaking degenerates. Got the call at 11am today for the gig. Playing with two guitarist. One I haven't gigged with in about four years. The other, I've never met. We'll get through it. Good coin.

Cash and Guinness are reasonable compensation.

Have fun.

I was in Chicago last year on this day. I didn't realize it was St. Patrick's Day, so when I saw the river turning green, I thought something was wrong.

Hails from Ireland on St Patricks day. I can assure you, there'll be no corned beef or green pints consumed here. We'll have pints of Guinness, black, the way the good Lord intended them to be!

Today, so far, has involved an Ulster Fry, a few pints of the black stuff, back here for lunch, couple of beers and a whiskey with lunch, before going back out for more Guinness.

Irish, Plastic Paddy or just general partygoer, have a great day and all the best from the home land.

Are people off work in Ireland today, or is all this going on while working?

Oh, and aside from the black pudding, I really want an Ulster Fry. I just looked up what that is. Yum!!!

Yep, it's a public holiday in Ireland. Traditionally, it's also a day where those people who give up drinking, smoking, etc for Lent can excuse themselves for the day. I also doubt many people in Ireland will be turning up for work tomorrow.

In school all day, and work right after that. I'm not doing anything except let my reddish beard shine.

I just hope this is my second last St. Patricks day out of Ireland. I'm celebrating with some Thin Lizzy, Roisin Dubh!

You need your black and white pudding mate! It mightn't sound terribly appealing, but wait until you taste it! Most people have the day off, St Patricks Day is a bank holiday here.

Organic Chemistry lab full of foul smelling chemicals at 9am tomorrow. Sweet Jesus I'm not looking forward to that!

What is the best airport to fly into Ireland? I was checking airfare, and I see quite a few to pick from.

Where are you planning on staying? Dublin is the biggest airport, but if you want to actually experience Ireland, I'd avoid Dublin entirely. Its not an "Irish" feeling city at all. You might enjoy flying into Cork, spending a while there, a little time in Galway city and Belfast, where I currently live, is definitely worth a visit, for the sake of soaking up some of the history of the city. If you make it to Belfast, let me know, I'll show you where to get a decent pint and I'll even hook you up with an Ulster fry at my home!

Great suggestions, thank you. I'm going to save this post in text form for reference. We'll stay away from Dublin for the most part.

I'm not much of a traveler anyway, but when I do, I attempt to stay away from all the touristy stuff if possible. Irritates my wife, but I just don't like being one of those type.

This is as close to Irish as I get:

But I'll drink it in honor of my ancestral cousins across the channel (the North Channel that is...between Scotland and Ireland...north of the Irish Sea...yeah).

A band I was in about 10 years ago played an afternoon gig at a Chinese restaurant on St Patrick's Day. They didn't have green beer (uuggh) but they did have green tea.

I normally stay in. Being around too many people who think they can handle their beer but can't gets annoying. We call it "amateur night".

Fluffy, even in Ireland, where people CAN handle their drink, you find that crap going down. People tend to drink more than they can handle given even the smallest excuse!
