Lacie external HD issues

Sign in to disble this ad
Copied from another forum where I posted this:

I normally connect my Lacie Network Space 2 to my Macbook Pro with the Ethernet cable that was provided with the external HD.

There are a couple of movies on it that I wanted to see on my tv (I used the Ethernet cable to write the movies to the HD
) so I connected the HD with my tv with the USB to USB cable that was also provided with the HD.

According to the tv, there was nothing on the HD, so while the HD was still connected to the tv, I used the Ethernet/USB cable to read the HD with my Macbook.

Now, when connected with the Ethernet cable, the Macbook says that there are NO items on the HD, and it keeps trying to connect, but nothing happens, the connection fails.

So I tried connecting with the USB/USB cable and I can only read what I put on on the HD with the USB/USB.

Now what do I do? All the data that I backed up on the HD with the Ethernet cable has become invisible. And I need that data.

The disk is spinning normally when connected with the ethernet cable, no cracking, ticking, whatever.

I tried running disk utility & repair on it but with the ethernet cable connection it's not showing up.

When connecting with the USB cable & running disk utility, only the files I read with the tv (using the USB cable) show up. Running a repair doesn't fix anything via the USB cable.

Any help?

Have you tried upgrading the firmware on the hdd? Just to see if it does any good.

I don't think it should erase anything, but the documentation should probably have some info on that.

But this is indeed a weird problem.

Funny. I'm having problems with my LACIE too. It's not showing on the network. It has a firewire port but it's the new firewire so I have to guy buy a cord to see if it's working right.
