Well, this morning, without notice myself and 16 others were laid off. It sucks. We had to be escorted out of the building (Federal Building) by security, it was embarrassing. Then, on the way home i was pulled over for not having my license plate attached to the front of my car. Of course, being a small town, the fact i have dreadlocks gave them "reason" to search my car for drugs. Which is funny (see sig). I was handcuffed and set on the curb for almost an hour while they searched and then seemed super bummed that they couldn't find anything.
Anyways I'm not too worried i guess. My resume has already been sent to two job offers, so fingers are crossed.
It's times like this that i am glad i have something like music to fall back on. It was awesome to come home and crank my Kustom200 and Ampeg 2x15 and just go bananas.
In any case, my heart goes out to anyone in a similar situation. Here's to a quick turn around!

Ya know.... isnt funny how employers all expect a 2 week notice if youre leaving? Ive never heard of a job that pays you the same respect.

I was part of a major lay off 2 years ago when the housing market crashed. I worked for CiTi Mortgage, lol. It was the same deal, called us in and let us go on the spot. Only, it was about 75 of us let go at the same time then.
Do as i say not as i do i suppose....

Maybe you could be a cop! | Bad idea atm. They are cutting a lot of departments down, and not filling people leaving.
Ive been looking for probation/parole jobs now for 6 months in california, the only one I have found is near san diego, 600 miles from where I live.

Of course, that's not the same thing as a general courtesy, but it is nice that they must do that.
One of my friends and classmates was promised a promotion but won't be able to accept it due to school commitments. He won't be able to stay in his current position, so his company has hired a head hunter to help him find a new job (he's not an executive or even middle management - it was a payroll position that he was going into); plus, the HR director is helping him improve his resume. I know that's often the exception to the rule, but it is nice to know that there are companies out there that look after their employees when they have to let them go.

i'm out of work at the moment too, not exactly laid off but as a contractor, told my services were no longer required.
my advice: make a list of things to do to get yourself sorted, and start doing them in the next day or so (jobsearch, benefits, sell stuff if needed...). anyway sounds like you're on top of things.
stay positive, remember it's only a temporary state of affairs!
