How many of you take your laptop for no other reason but to surf before the gig or during breaks?

If I'm at an out of town gig and know we'll have a lot of down time before the place opens, I'll bring my laptop and do some work or study on the couches/chairs at the venue. I don't really just bring it just for the hell of it though.

Never really if it's an in town gig. The exception was once when I had an exam the next day and I did some studying between load in and the start of the gig.

OTOH, for out of town bands, I wouldn't say it's all that uncommon, especially band on long tours. I was hanging out at the bar at middle east in cambridge waiting for a MTB show to start and Dave Knudson came upstairs and sat behind me surfing the web for like half an hour. Didn't realize who it was until they came out for their set. I was kicking myself for not saying something while he was behind me, but at the same time I'm sure he didn't want to be bothered by some random dude at a bar.

There's a band that I do regular fill in work for that brings a PC to every gig. But its not for surfing the web, they have all their samples and sequences and run it through the board as well. Or so I am told.

It's a good idea if one wants to avoid drinking.
