We technically have 3 weeks left, but NO more classes.
And to whoever asked...
Juries for music students are the following. each instrument is SLIGHTLY different. Here's the Bass Jury.
1) Assemble a band (Or if you're daring, do it solo) you can also play along with an Abersold Track.
2) Learn the Repertoire which consists of 17 jazz standards, three choice tunes (Doesn't have to be jazz) and one etude, which shows your technical ability.
3) For the rep, you MUST be able to play the melody (the head) solo, and walk over the changes.
4) Everything (aside the etude) MUST be memorized.
5) The jury is when you go into a classroom, infront of a panel of bass players. (Mine consisted of Mike Downes, Pat Kilbride, Neil Swainson, Vaughan Misner, and Will Jarvis, for any of you Toronto guys...)
6) Mike Downes (Dept. Head) Will ask you to play. You HAVE to play your etude and a choice tune, but he will only ask for about 2 or 3 choice tunes.
Let me tell you, It's stressful as HELL!
EDIT: I forgot to add, this year we have to do a song in oddtime. My song is "Have you met miss jones" in 5/4 |

Two days of class left, then just 3 finals over the course of a week standing between my and a Bachelors of Science. Then only another year between me and my Masters. Gotta love the shortcut route. |
