Hey guys,
A coworker just offered me a sweet deal on a Samsung 40" LCD TV. Model LN-T4071F. It's a fewyears older, but it's 1080P, 120Hz, etc. It's a good tv, and in great shape, except....
A line goes perfectly horizontally across the screen. It's several pixels thick and black. On the left side of the screen, it sometimes glows other colors depending what's on the screen, and doesn't seem to be as "sharp" of a line (blurred edges) on the left. On the right, it's very crisp and totally black. He gave me the set for $100! I figure even if the panel is shot it will work nicely for my "play" room, where my basses, amps, computer, etc. are.
Check out the pics below. If there are any TV guys or other cats in the know here, I'd love your opinion(s).
Thanks in advance!!!!

The line isn't as obvious as the pics make it look. I took a bunch and picked the few where it really looked prominent.

| | | | A guess would be a cold solder joint on one of the line driver chips. If it were mine I would pop it open and do a real good visual inspection of all the components under magnification. If you got lucky you might be able to find something obvious. If you don't see anything you could try the poke around method, especially connectors, while watching the screen for any changes. Who knows you might get lucky. Please use standard precautions when working with anything that has line voltage lurking around. Although LCDs do not have high-voltage transformers like older TVs they still have 110 inside. |

| | I fling carrots | | Join Date: Jun 2002 Location: Make a left at the Taco Bell | | | Thanks guys. Like I said, for $100 it's well worth it to me even if it stays busted. It's not in my living room, as I already have a great one in there. I was hoping to put in on the wall in my bedroom, but if I can't get that line out of there, I'll toss it in my play room.
Like I said, the line is not as noticeable as in the pics. It def. looks worse in those pictures.
