LCD TV Repair?

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone here know about repairing LCD TV's. I was given a Dell w3000 30" LCD TV which apparently is the biggest piece of junk put out by Dell as far as reliability from what I have read online. I got it from my employer and saw it on functioning well when it was mounted on the wall of our conference room. The picture was very decent. I don't plan on using it for HD as I only have standard CATv and a regular DVD player (no blu-ray or HD discs). I got it home and plugged everything in, the green power LED lights up and sound comes through the speakers, but the screen stays black. I can't get any menu functions or source input changes via remote to function. I think the LCD is not working. I read up and found that this might be an inverter replacement issue. I can source the parts and do the labor myself but I wanted to see if you anyone experienced in this type of electronics would have better advice. On more thing, the DVI & HD15 computer video input ports do not function either - which means the motherboard needs replacement also?

I found the inverter parts here: http://www.lcdparts.net/LCDTVInverte...nal=6632L-0048

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Peace,
Brim

no one? There's got to be a few electronics geeks here. I think I might go ahead and just order the parts and see if that'll fix it. It's only $150 for the inverter kit.

No particular advice, except that the inverter can kill you. Its purpose is to convert the low voltage power supply into some obscenely high voltage to ignite the backlight lamps, which are typically cold cathode fluorescent tubes. I would not want to take a poke off the output of a backlight inverter.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll buy the parts and get the installation done by an electronics repair service locally. Certainly don't want to shock myself.
