LED TV question

Sign in to disble this ad
My wife just bought me a 19' lcd tv to put in my garage so I can watch tv while I tinker around. My question is do you think it's ok to put a tv in an unheated enviroment? The temperature there would be hot when it's hot and cold when it's cold. I think it should be ok, but just wanted others opinions

It will be fine. Consumer electronics like that are designed to be used in a wide range of ambient temperatures. I would just be sure it has plenty of ventilation when running in the heat.

Should be ok, afaik it'd just be sudden changes causing condenstion inside the tv you'd need to worry about....

Unless you live in the frozen tundra or the jungles of Africa your tv will be fine. Most companys recommend a storage temp range of -4F to 113F. I don't think unplugging will be necessary between uses since I doubt you'll come close to either of those temperatures.

My garage could easily reach 113F in the summer, even when it's only 100 outside. But that's not what I'd be worried about.

Humidity will definitely shorten the life of most electronics. If you're fine with it not lasting as long as possible, then that's probably fine. But there's no tellin, I've got a 1970's stereo that been in the garage since 1990 that still works fine and a brand new CD player that crapped out in a year.

lcd / led televisions usually don't like very high temps, hence the suggestions not to install in direct proximity to radiators and fireplaces.

People do it ANYWAY, but...it's there in the print.

In texas yeah, I could see that. But in NY, not so much. At least not on a daily basis.
