Leif Erikson day is tomorrow here in the states. Tomorrow is also "hat day" at my school. I'm taking that as my oppurtunity to wear a viking helmet to school tomorrow.
Anyone doing anything fun? |

Or just drive around and bast black metal at full volume and invade people's ears with Black Sabbath.

I don't imagine that it's quite the same blasting Bjork or Sigur Ros. |

"Married to the Sea" off of Lars Fredricksen's album "Viking" would certainly be appropriate.
Given the location of the Vinland settlement, obviously some Rush would be in order.
ABBA sort of works given that 1/4 of the band is Norwegian and most people have the mistaken idea that Leif Ericson was Norwegian.
And definitely some Sigur Ros. |

Hmmmm....... Never heard of this holiday. Should make my sister happy though. When's Shawn Cassidy day?? They should just combine them and celebrate on a Monday or something IMO.

But that is a good question. Why is it celebrated in the US? Merely because he got there first of the Europeans? |

Another thing is that Columbus's (heavily edited) story is taught quite a bit in American public school and, at least when I was in school, he was something of a folk hero. When people heard that someone had done the same exploration feat centuries prior, they probably felt that a holdiay was in order. |

They've recreated the Viking settlement at L'anse Aux Meadows. It's pretty neat.

The Vikings eventually branched out into Russia, too, and established trade routes down to Constantinople. |
