So you make a bet. You lose the bet. How long does it have to be before officially become a welcher? In my book, it's when it comes time to make another wager on the same event. So while my outstanding candidate is not yet officially a welcher by my standards, (he might be by your standards) let's throw up all the welchers in this thread. Even if we don't know them it feels good to shine the spotlight on them and watch them squirm. |

That said, Erica is now 5 months in arrears, it appears.

But regardless, IMO after a week, welcher it is. |

Erica's a special case though. Wouldn't want to hurt her feelings you know...
Takes a while for her lard ass to wobble down to the store Gard. You may have to help her with some Crisco and a a slip-n-slide... |

If its a competitive bet amongst an aquaintence (co-worker, friend of a friend, etc.), I'd demand payment no later than a week later.
I always pay my debts as soon as possible, not a fan of being in the red. I wish more people had the integrity to do the same.
No one has welched on me yet, but my friend Christian has about a month left to replace my headphones.

Also, I firmly believe that when you're slow to pay, you should provide additional compensation. (I sent a second six-pack to Maki, for example.) As anyone who's taken an economics class knows, one must always account for the time value of beer.

interestingly enough, in my house, since we've moved to "slap bets only" everyone has been a lot less cavalier with their wagers

Raquel, on the other hand, is very very right. At least, she used to be.
