Let's call out the welchers

So you make a bet. You lose the bet. How long does it have to be before officially become a welcher? In my book, it's when it comes time to make another wager on the same event. So while my outstanding candidate is not yet officially a welcher by my standards, (he might be by your standards) let's throw up all the welchers in this thread. Even if we don't know them it feels good to shine the spotlight on them and watch them squirm.

SoCom has a couple of weeks before he's officially a welcher.

You're a lot easier on 'em than me. I figure 4 weeks, and you're a lazy slacker.

That said, Erica is now 5 months in arrears, it appears.

IMO the time period to pay up is very subjetive depending on who the person is & what is wagered.

But regardless, IMO after a week, welcher it is.

I got mine shipped within a month. All the rest of you are lazy bastards.

Erica's a special case though. Wouldn't want to hurt her feelings you know...

Takes a while for her lard ass to wobble down to the store Gard. You may have to help her with some Crisco and a a slip-n-slide...

If its a friendly bet between friends I dont mind waiting, so long as payment comes. I'll be generous and say 6 months. But by then Ive probably forgotten it.

If its a competitive bet amongst an aquaintence (co-worker, friend of a friend, etc.), I'd demand payment no later than a week later.

I always pay my debts as soon as possible, not a fan of being in the red. I wish more people had the integrity to do the same.

No one has welched on me yet, but my friend Christian has about a month left to replace my headphones.

There are people who still haven't paid on bets from the last NBA season? Wow, now I don't feel quite as bad about taking 4 or 5 months to pay off mine.

Also, I firmly believe that when you're slow to pay, you should provide additional compensation. (I sent a second six-pack to Maki, for example.) As anyone who's taken an economics class knows, one must always account for the time value of beer.

Depends on what the prize is.

A 6er of beer, should not take long.

Very true. If youre talking $5-$10 it should be paind pretty promptly. Someone owes me $100 and I'll give them some time, or let them pay me in $20 increments or something.

see this is why slap bets are awesome. there is no waiting for the loser to pay up, because the winner can "collect" any time

interestingly enough, in my house, since we've moved to "slap bets only" everyone has been a lot less cavalier with their wagers

Gambling is wrong, but gambling, losing, and not paying is wronger.
Raquel, on the other hand, is very very right. At least, she used to be.
