Louis Wain
For those who are unaware, Louis Wain was a psychiatric patient diagnosed with schizophrenia. His early works featuring anthropomorphic cats were highly popular in England in the early 20th century, but as his condition seemed to worsen, his pictures become wilder and, for lack of a better term, very "acid."
Very early:
Getting anthropomorphic:
These were the types of pictures that he initially became famous for, and were featured on greeting cards:
Becoming more abstract:
Whoah:
Trippin' BALLS:
There's probably hundreds of other drawings he made, that run the gamut from naturalist, to absolutely wild. With a few early exceptions, he drew cats exclusively. |
