Let's talk Kenwood car stereos... PHOTOS INSIDE

This is probably the greatest thing I have bought myself in a long time. I had the Kenwood KVT-819DVD and the matching GPS unit installed in my Grand Cherokee Overland last December and it's amazing what it can do. The screen flips out and the faceplate is removeable for theft prevention.

I plug my ipod in the glove compartment, and I'm off. Everything is controlled through the touchscreen. I even had them wire it up so I could use the built in steering wheel controls that were already in my Jeep.

Does anyone have this or similar model? I can't live without it now.

Doesn't do anything for me. I don't need anything more than an iPod jack and a play button.

No, sorry. My most recent Kenwood buy was the TT756SL 2-Slice Radio Toaster with FM Radio, which achieved the impressive distinction of being -- by a huge margin in both cases -- the most awful toaster I have ever used in my life and the most awful radio I have used in my life. It's an astonishingly useless piece of junk.

When you see this, run:

I have the same one in my 04' Explorer, I also got the Kenwood KDC-C719 10 CD changer which I also mounted in my dash, the backup camera, and the Sirius radio receiver. Total it cost me about $1600, worth the money though for sure.

Cool looking deck. I don't have anything like that in my Ram. I prefer the look of a stock HU.

But it's a toaster and a radio! How can I resist? Do you know how many times I've been making toast and thought and to myself, "Man, I could really listen to the radio right now!" but alas I had no radio near me. Well no more can this happen when you own a Kenwood TT756SL Toaster/Radio combo!

I like my carputer better. When I pull the Mustang out of storage this spring I'll take pics and such.
I'm sure this thread will be long forgotten by then. By myself.

My girlfriend's brother left an old Kenwood stereo amp and a pair of really nice, old speakers at her house when he moved out ages back. Hooked it up in her living room and played Resident Evil 4 on the Wii through it. Now it's in her room for iPod. Sounds awesome

Old stuff = <3

I bought that one on Sept. 12/08, just after buying my iPod. Around three weeks ago, it stopped powering on. I took it to the store where I bought it thinking that they were going to replace it for a new one. Instead, they fixed it at no cost but I had to get mad at them to do it promptly. It's working fine now.

Yeah, mine cost me a grand total of about $1500 but worth every penny. You really start to appreciate it when everything is working on the road.

I forgot, I also had the bluetooth accessory installed so it instantly mutes whatever is on, and you can even link your address book in the phone to the stereo. Pretty sweet.

NO...IT'S...NOT!

Please trust me on this. It is an astounding POS. It only toasts the lower 2/3 of the bread surface (useful, huh?) and if you turn off the radio it starts at the bottom of the dial on power-up and you have to repeatedly jab an autotune button until it finds your desired station by guesswork. There's no readout and no manual tuner. If you eventually find a station, you have to leave the radio on or you may never find it again.

You know the expression about audio "sounding like a tin can"? This really does. Literally. I have NEVER heard a worse-sounding radio. It sounds like a badly-distorted source coming through the Foster horn in your 4x10 cab.

Oh, and when you push down the toaster lever, the whole thing flips over!

Note the arrangement in the picture. It takes both hands to even load a slice of bread, and the antenna's in the way up in the front where you need to grab it.

I was genuinely amazed for days at what a massive pile of inept engineering this monstrosity represented. I'm not sure there's anything they didn't screw up. And this is a $100 item!

So much for Kenwood quality!
